Cowboys Fans Slam Stephen Jones for His Tone-Deaf Comment

Jones had a foot-in-mouth moment while talking about the Cowboys’ outlook for the future during the press conference. He made an air-quote gesture with his left hand while talking about fans’ disappointment in the team’s playoff drought. This did not go unnoticed by reporters or fans who tuned in, as the entire NFL world called out his callousness.

An NFL fan delivered a wake-up call to the 60-year-old, who has held his executive vice president role since his father Jerry Jones bought the team in 1989:

“Dips**t you ARE in a drought. That’s a fact,” said one fan.

The team’s owner did himself no favors with his self-obsessed monologue while fielding questions. It is safe to say that neither the father nor the son came away looking good from Schottenheimer’s introduction.

One user noted how neither fans nor the Cowboys media personnel present applauded the Cowboys’ EVP on the dais.

Another Cowboys fan lamented their 30-year NFC Championship appearance drought, saying: “Yeah I watched them win in 1996 when I was 5. We’re going on 30 years this season. Not to mention our OC & DC just played each other in the NFC Championship game with our 2 biggest rivals. This is the definition of insanity.”

Cowboys fans have every reason to be aggrieved with the Jones family. The team hasn’t delivered on its regular season promise for a long time, yet fans are paying $300 just for standing-row tickets. Season tickets for 2025 start at $6,540 for eight home games, working out to a whopping $817.50 per game.

The Cowboys are in a win-now mode currently. Quarterback Dak Prescott is not getting any younger, and neither are his star receiver CeeDee Lamb or edge rusher Micah Parsons. Many pillars of the current roster are too old for their Super Bowl window to last longer than a season or two.

Even though fans recognize the urgency of this situation, the Jones family’s decision-making has not allowed the fanbase to bestow any faith upon them. Appointing Schottenheimer in such haste surely ranks among one of their more baffling decisions.
