The Dallas Cowboys had a disappointing 2024 season after making the playoffs the year before. Dak Prescott dealt with injuries, and without him, the team couldn’t keep up with the top contenders in the NFC. Dallas finished 7-10, landing in third place in the NFC East.
One area that could use a serious upgrade heading into 2025 is wide receiver depth. CeeDee Lamb is a clear-cut star, but the talent behind him is underwhelming. The Cowboys did sign Paris Campbell to a one-year deal in free agency, but more help is needed.
The 2025 NFL Draft is less than a month away. The Cowboys hold the No. 12 overall pick in the first round and have 10 total selections, giving them several chances to add talent around Prescott. According to co-owner Stephen Jones, that may be exactly what they’re planning.

Cowboys’ Stephen Jones Alludes to Dak Prescott Plan at 2025 NFL Draft
Jones recently spoke with the Cowboys’ official site about what remains on their offseason checklist. While he said he likes the current receiver room, Jones also made it clear they’re still looking for help.
“We’re still open to looking at a really explosive number two that could upgrade us,” Jones said, via staff writer Tommy Yarrish. “But as I said, I like our room and certainly like the players we currently have.”
Although the position is still a need, the Cowboys did make a move during the 2024 season by acquiring Jonathan Mingo in a trade with the Carolina Panthers. Jones mentioned Mingo as someone they’re optimistic about.
“I think him having a full offseason to work with Dak, and as I said, we really liked him when he came out of Ole Miss, and really feel like he’s got a lot of upside,” Jones said, via Yarrish.
Cowboys Urged by Favorite Prescott Target to Add WR
The Cowboys front office isn’t the only group aware of the need at receiver. Lamb also believes the team could use more help at the position. He even named a few prospects he’s impressed with in the 2025 draft class.
Lamb spoke with RG.org contributor DJ Siddiqi on March 4 and said he’s looking for depth — not a specific name.
“Just looking for a great complement,” Lamb told Siddiqi. “I’m not really pressed about having whoever. It doesn’t matter, as long as you come here ready to work, I’m excited to teach you, excited to work and just gradually gravitate towards instilling you in this offense. It’s gonna be fun with whoever.”
Even though he’s not locked in on one guy, Lamb made it clear he’s a fan of the class. He pointed out several receivers who caught his attention, including Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan and Missouri’s Luther Burden III.
“I like a lot of them actually,” Lamb told Siddiqi. “There’s a bunch of pieces that stood out. I like T-Mac [McMillan] from Arizona for one. I like Luther [Burden III] from Missouri. The list could go on. I like Emeka from Ohio State and Tez Johnson [from Oregon].”
The Cowboys could go in a number of directions when the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off, but wide receiver remains a clear need. And both the front office and franchise stars seem ready to welcome some help.
