Should I Draft Courtland Sutton? Fantasy Outlook for the Broncos’ WR in 2024

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton is the true top receiver option in this new-look offense with rookie Bo Nix at the helm.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton’s fantasy football outlook in 2024 is looking up with a new rookie quarterback and Jerry Jeudy shipped out of town.

Now, Sutton is the true No. 1 in the offense. With this positive-looking profile, using a fantasy team name to honor him could be a good move. For example, “Lord of the Court.”

With the change to the Broncos’ offense, I’ll examine Sutton’s fantasy outlook in 2024 and determine if he’s a good pick.

Courtland Sutton’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season

A decent fantasy football strategy this season could be to wait on receiver, especially when you can get a No. 1 option in an offense like Sutton at WR48 in PPR leagues.

According to TruMedia, Sutton ran 465 routes, was targeted 90 times, caught 59 passes, and had 772 yards and 10 touchdowns. He finished as the WR33.

Yes, this is quite a low finish for a receiver of Sutton’s skill level, but he had just 772 yards, less than 60 catches, a quarterback change, and Jeudy was still on the team.

Now, the Broncos have their quarterback of the future in Bo Nix, Jeudy is gone, and Sutton should have many targets coming his way.

Nix completed nearly 80% of his passes in his final season at Oregon. Of his attempts, 11.1% went 20+ yards downfield, and he completed 23 of 44 passes for 847 yards, 12 touchdowns, and just one interception. On passes 0-9 yards, he was deadly accurate at 82.8% on 157 tries.

Sutton can be a playmaker downfield, but 43.7% of his targets were in that 0-9 yards downfield distance.

Beyond Sutton, the team has Marvin Mims, who the team hopes to see some progression from, and roleplayer Josh Reynolds as their projected starting three receivers.

They did draft Nix’s top college target, Troy Franklin, but he’s a projected backup heading into the season. That could change, but Sutton is still the No. 1.

The Broncos had a dreadful season in 2023 personnel-wise with the fallout of Russell Wilson, but Nix is an experienced college starting quarterback, and Sutton will be his go-to target.

Nix, Sutton, and the rest of the Broncos have a Week 14 bye week.

Is Courtland Sutton a Good Fantasy Pick?

At WR48, this is a no-brainer selection to make.

Mims will be involved, and Franklin will certainly get some playing time, but Sutton is the go-to guy in Denver.

Yes, we can officially say he’s not that elite, prototype No. 1 receiver, but Sutton will get the targets.

There could be some “bust” games with a rookie quarterback, but I think Nix is ready to man an NFL offense.

Getting Sutton at WR48 leaves a lot of room for value. Even if he finishes as a WR3, he’s a competent Flex play and will outperform his ADP.

If Sutton is there for you at No. 118 overall as the WR48, take him.
