In another disappointing performance from the Chicago Bears’ offense, tight end Cole Kmet ended the first half appearing to be shaken up after a big hit on Chicago’s end-of-half drill.
The Bears were driving down the field with less than a minute left in the half, and after taking a big hit in the middle of the field, Kmet’s afternoon looked to be in jeopardy.
However, it appears Kmet will be just fine.
Cole Kmet’s Usage for the Bears in 2024
Kmet hasn’t been utilized much this season, as backup tight end Gerald Everett was a surprising focal point of this offense in Week 1. In the first week of the season, Everett had seven more snaps than Kmet, however, in Week 2, Kmet’s snap count rose.
Against the Colts, it appears like Waldron is learning to trust the starting tight end more.
Prior to being banged up, Kmet ended the first half as the Bears’ third-leading receiver, taking three receptions for 27 yards.
It appeared like Kmet was fine, as the tight end finished this matchup against the Colts with a team-high 10 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown.
With Caleb Williams’ rookie struggles so far, a safety net like Kmet in the middle of the field is crucial. And with Kmet’s injury looking to be nothing serious, his usage should remain strong.
Will Kmet Return From Injury?
Chicago looked like they could’ve been without their starting tight end, but after halftime, Kmet was immediately targeted in the passing game twice.
It appeared as though Kmet was just shaken up, which paints a positive picture for the Bears’ offense moving forward.
His injury designation in Week 4 will be telling as to how serious this injury was. Off first impressions, the Bears seem to have been lucky.
