Everything You Need To Know About Bears Offensive Coordinator Shane Waldron

Waldron was born in 1979 in Portland, Oregon. His football journey began as a quarterback at Tufts University. In addition to playing long snapper and tight end, this is where Waldron first demonstrated his leadership and strategic thinking on the field.

After being a graduate assistant at Notre Dame from 2005-07, Waldron transitioned into coaching, starting as an operations intern for the New England Patriots for a year. Early in his career, he worked as a quality control coach and then as an offensive assistant for various college programs.

Waldron was a wide receivers coach at Hartford, an offensive coordinator at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School and a tight ends coach and offensive line coach at UMass.

His innovative approach and understanding of offensive dynamics quickly set him apart, leading to opportunities in the NFL. Waldron joined the Washington Commanders as an offensive quality control coach in 2016.

Then, in 2017, Waldron’s career took off when he became the Los Angeles Rams’ tight ends coach. One year later, Waldron received a promotion to passing game coordinator. Then, he earned yet another promotion to quarterbacks coach after Zac Taylor left to become the new Cincinnati Bengals head coach.

In January 2021, the Seattle Seahawks hired Waldron as their offensive coordinator under head coach Pete Carroll, replacing Brian Schottenheimer. During his tenure with the Seahawks, Waldron was instrumental in developing a high-powered passing game and integrating new offensive concepts that contributed to the team’s overall success.

How Long Has Shane Waldron Been the Bears Offensive Coordinator?

The Bears appointed Waldron as the team’s offensive coordinator in February 2024. This role allows Waldron to implement his innovative offensive philosophy with a new team.

Throughout the past offseason, Ryan Poles and the Bears have loaded up on offensive weapons for Waldron.

New additions such as quarterback Caleb Williams, wide receiver Keenan Allen, and running back D’Andre Swift should help Waldron transition smoothly.

Who Was the Offensive Coordinator Before Shane Waldron?

Before Waldron’s arrival, Luke Getsy was the Bears’ offensive coordinator. Getsy’s tenure included both successes and challenges, and the team sought a new direction to further develop its offensive capabilities.

Waldron’s appointment reflects the Bears’ commitment to revitalizing their offensive strategy and achieving greater success. His role as the Bears’ OC marks a new chapter in the team’s offensive development.

With his creative play-calling and proven track record, Waldron is poised to make a significant impact on the Bears’ offense.

As the 2024 season unfolds, Waldron’s leadership will be crucial in driving the team’s offensive success — and maximizing its potential and the high expectations it will face this upcoming season.
