Charlotte 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Reports

    Grant DuBose, WR

Strengths: Nice-sized receiver with long arms, big hands, and a dependable game. Sells routes, plays with balance as well as body control, and is very smooth. Natural catching the ball, adjusts to the errant throw, and takes a heavy hit, but holds on to the pass. Comes back to the quarterback and works to make himself an available target.

Consistently catches the ball with his hands and snatches the pass out of the air away from his frame. Uses his large frame to shield away defenders, displays eye/hand coordination, and gives effort running after the catch. Effective downfield blocker.

Weaknesses: Does not show a burst. Plays to one speed and isn’t a vertical threat. Marginal run-after-the-catch ability.

Overall: DuBose was a productive wideout the past two seasons at Charlotte and performed well during Senior Bowl practices. He’s a prototypical possession wideout who offers possibilities as a fifth receiver who primarily runs underneath routes.

    Markees Watts, EDGE

Strengths: Fluid, smooth defender who primarily came out of a three-point stance for Charlotte. Athletic, easily moves about the field, and plays with balance. Quickly gets down the line of scrimmage to pursue the action and is rarely off his feet. Breaks down well and uses his hands to protect himself. Explosive and plays with balance as well as body control.

Weaknesses: Controlled at the point by a single blocker. Not much of an edge rusher out of a three-point stance. Primarily used up the field.

Overall: Watts was a productive defender for Charlotte who was primarily asked to make plays up the field. He possesses weakside linebacker size and must be more productive making plays in space as well as playing on special teams to have any chance at the next level.

    Victor Tucker, WR

Strengths: Consistently productive wideout with average size and speed. Sells routes, quickly gets out of breaks, and extends his hands to make the reception away from his frame. Adjusts to the errant throw, makes the catch in stride, and displays eye/hand coordination. Tracks the pass in the air and makes the difficult over-the-shoulder reception with defenders draped on him. Displays good awareness and works hard even if the play is away from him.

Weaknesses: Plays to one speed and lacks a burst. Average run-after-the-catch ability. Lacks great upside.

Overall: Tucker was consistently productive at Charlotte the five years he was on the field, but he lacks the measurables and computer numbers for the next level. He dabbled as a return specialist, which is the only way he’ll make an NFL roster.
