Coach Prime’s Team Has an Edge Over Its Big 12 Rival This Week

The Buffs were 11.5-point favorites over the Utes to win the game. Clearly, Coach Prime happens to be in a commanding position, especially with their 5-1 Big 12 record, which gives the team more confidence to secure a win.

Ahead of the game, Sanders gave Utah coach Kyle Whittingham due credit for his contributions to the conference.

“I have not only respect but admiration for what he’s accomplished, and I would just wish my career could be a portion of what he’s accomplished, and all the young men that he’s sent on to the NFL as well as a better situation for themselves with the tools that he’s instilled in them,” Sanders said in the pre-game press conference.

The Utes are hit with a myriad of injuries, with quarterbacks Cam Rising and Brandon Rose and tight end Brant Kuithe out for the year. Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of Denver Broncos QB Zach Wilson, has been the starter from the pocket for Utah, while Deion’s son Shedeur Sanders suits up for Colorado.

The dynamic duo of Sanders and Travis Hunter will play a major role in the Buffs’ championship eligibility. For an automatic bid in the 12-team CFP field, BYU, which is currently on top of the Big 12 standings, could pose a serious threat to Colorado’s aspirations.

Coach Prime’s squad needs to win all of its remaining three games on the schedule to secure the spot. Although Utah is on a five-game losing streak, tables could turn at any time with Whittingham trying to improve the season record.
