The Kansas City Chiefs enter Week 3 undefeated, looking to continue their dominance into another Super Bowl run. However, in their Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, running back Isiah Pacheco went down with a broken fibula, landing him on injured reserve for at least the next four weeks.
With Pacheco out, the Chiefs are going to rely more heavily on rookie running back Carson Steele. However, despite the increased role, his family won’t be at his first start. Why?
Why Is Carson Steele’s Family Missing His First Start?
It’s only Week 3 and the rookie out of UCLA is getting his first start with the Super Bowl champions. As Kansas City travels to face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night, Steele will be at the forefront of things.
Steele revealed, however, that his family will miss the game because of his only sister, Kesslar. He told the media that she is getting married Sunday in Greenwood, Ind., which is the family’s hometown. He also shared that, thanks to being on the Chiefs, he will be getting out of groomsman duties.
Additionally, according to the family’s wedding site, Steele was set to be both the brother of the bride and friend of the groom.
“With Carson’s busy football schedule, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that he will be able to make it to the wedding, as he is such an important part of both the Bride and Groom’s lives,” said the website.
With the wedding planned for as long as it has been, there was never a guarantee Steele would make it, but there wasn’t a guarantee he’d make the Chiefs’ roster either. Coming in as an undrafted free agent, Steele impressed during training camp and the preseason, earning a spot on the 53-man roster. Now, he’s in line to start.
Steele’s parents, who will be at the wedding, are Joseph Steele and Angela Berry-Steele. His sister is his only sibling. He attended Center Grove High School growing up, where he rushed for 1,659 yards and 31 touchdowns as a senior in 2020.
