Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward has been a major reason for their undefeated start to the season. After two seasons at Incarnate Word and two with the Washington State Cougars, Ward has seamlessly transitioned to the East Coast with the Hurricanes.
Let’s take a look at Ward’s performance this season, his projected landing spot in our latest mock draft, his scouting report, and more.
Where Did Ward Land in Our Most Recent NFL Mock Draft?
In Pro Football Network NFL Draft Analyst Ian Cummings’ latest seven-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Ward was selected in the second round by the New York Jets with the No. 42 pick.
Here is what Cummings had to say about Ward ending up with the Jets:
“Cam Ward could crack the first round. Even if he doesn’t, he’ll be coveted on Day 2. Here, he becomes the understudy and eventual successor to fellow creator Aaron Rodgers.
Ward is an elite playmaker under center, who thrives when tasked with extending plays and layering into tight windows. And this year, he’s improved his discipline in the pocket.”
Ward’s Best Landing Spots in the NFL
The ability to not only read defenses but use athleticism to make something out of nothing has almost become the norm for NFL quarterbacks. Ward is proving to be that kind of quarterback. Here are three potential landing spots for Ward in the NFL Draft.
New York Jets
The future is now for the Jets, which is why Aaron Rodgers isn’t going anywhere. But he will be gone at some point, and having a quarterback in place to take over the reins when Rodgers’ time is up in the league would be most beneficial for a team like the Jets.
Cleveland Browns
The Deshaun Watson trade looks worse for the Cleveland Browns with each passing week. And even though his contract is about as untradable as it gets, there will come a time when he is no longer under center in Cleveland. Having a quarterback like Ward come in and take over when the transition finally happens could help the Browns get back in business.
Tennessee Titans
Is it too early to give up on the Will Levis experiment with the Tennessee Titans? He certainly hasn’t done a whole lot to make this team think that he is the future at the quarterback position.
Ward’s Scouting Report
Here is some of what Cummings had to say in his scouting report on Ward:
“Ward is undeniably talented, making some of the hardest throws look effortless. His elite composite arm talent allows him to layer passes into incredibly tight windows. He’s a danger as a passer from any platform, inside or outside of structure, and his arm elasticity is perfectly attuned to the modern game.
“In the past, Ward’s nontraditional playmaking style has come at the cost of traditional QB utility and pocket operation. Heading into 2024, he was plagued by flaws in this area — holding the ball too long if completions weren’t schemed and inviting unnecessary chaos with delays and lax footwork.
“Ward is a high-level problem solver in chaotic situations, with the combined malleability, as an athlete and a thrower, and the improvisational feel to make something out of nothing.”
