Over the past week and so, Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders’ potential move to the Dallas Cowboys next season has created a stir among NFL media.
Despite Coach Prime’s assertion to remain in Colorado despite his sons moving out of the program to enter the NFL Draft in 2025, a losing season for the Cowboys could prompt a coaching change. Speculations strongly suggest it could be the Colorado coach given how he turned around the program at Folsom Field in just a year.
Cam Newton Hesitates on Deion Sanders-Cowboys Reunion
If it were up to former quarterback Cam Newton, he may not just be sold down on Sanders taking up the reins for America’s Team. Instead, Newton feels Sanders should pick Florida State as his next coaching destination. He had his reasons, which he rolled out during a Nov. 15 episode of “First Take.”
“No, I do not think that it’ll be a good look. And I’m gonna tell you what is a good look. I do believe for Prime, it’s Florida State University,” Newton said. “Yeah, it makes the most sense because not only would you have more time to build a foundation, but you also have more resources than, respectfully, Colorado. I’m looking at one coach that stands out at Florida State that he could potentially build a legacy — Bobby Bowden.”

Regarding why Florida State and not Dallas, Newton added that the culture of college football could be more favorable than in the NFL.
“I don’t think he would have the same timeframe in Dallas. Mike McCarthy? Four years on the bubble. Jason Garrett? Nine years. His quarterbacks: Dak Prescott, Matt Cassel, Tony Romo, Jon Kitna. Wade Phillips? Three years. In this day and age, everything has changed. We want right-now results, but we don’t have time to wait for nothing. It’s a microwave society. We want a Thanksgiving meal with microwave resources.”
Stephen A. Smith Wants Dallas To Tank, Bring in Sanders Duo
Prominent ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith thinks differently than Cam Newton. Not only does he like the fit between Sanders and the Dallas Cowboys, but he went one step ahead and called out Jerry Jones to tank what’s left of the season so that they can draft Sanders’ son, Shedeur Sanders, first overall in next year’s NFL Draft.
“I’ll take it a step further, and I’m going to make people very uncomfortable here,” Smith said. “I believe that the Dallas Cowboys should tank the rest of the season, get the No. 1 overall pick so you can draft Shedeur Sanders and, by the way, hire Prime Time Deion Sanders as your head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.”
While NFL media contemplates what Deion’s next coaching destination could be like, Coach Prime is engulfed in leading the 7-2 Buffaloes program to the Big 12 Championship game this season. Their next assignment is against Utah in Week 12, and a win here could propel their AP rankings and solidify their spot in the conference table.
