Caleb Williams Breaks Silence on Rumors of Bears Players’ Lack of Support for Rookie QB Amid 3-Game Losing Streak

    Published on

Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams cleared the air after rumors emerged that he was not getting support from some veteran players on the team.

Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears have lost three straight games since their bye week. They started the season 4-2, with their fans optimistic about making the playoffs. However, they are now 4-5 and no longer look like a team that can achieve anything significant this year.

Williams has been poor in the last three games, and the offense has failed to score a touchdown on their last 23 drives. Chicago fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron following the 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots last week.

Moreover, there were reports about the Bears’ veteran players asking the coaches to start Tyson Bagent instead of Williams. This news shocked everyone and raised serious questions about the rookie quarterback.

Caleb Williams Sheds Light on Situation With Teammates

Williams recently spoke to the media, and he was asked about the support he is receiving from his teammates during this tough period. The USC product clarified that there are no issues, and the team’s players are backing him.

“I think those guys are good, easy,” Williams said as per NBC’s Pro Football Talk. “We talk about it. I think I got full support from them. I’ve gotten texts or calls or people coming up to me, with this situation that just happened, coming up to me and saying, ‘We got your back, we’re with you.’ You know, things like that and, ‘Let’s go.’

“That kind of mindset and attitude has been what it’s been this past couple of days. And that’s kind of what it’s only been.”

Bears tight end Cole Kmet also clarified that the rumors of veteran players asking for Williams to get benched in favor of Bagent are not true.

Waldron’s failure in Chicago did not surprise many. His time with the Seattle Seahawks showed that the Bears’ offense could struggle under Waldron, and ultimately, the franchise decided to part ways with him after just nine games.

Thomas Brown is the new Bears’ offensive coordinator, and Williams hopes the OC change will “provide a little more explosiveness” for their offense. Chicago has averaged just 9.0 points in their last three games. Their quarterback has thrown for 468 yards, no touchdowns and interceptions, completing 50.5% of his throws with a passer rating of 64.7 during this span.

Williams and Bears Have a Tough Road Ahead

This three-game losing streak came at the worst possible time for the Bears. The games against the Commanders, Cardinals, and Patriots were considered winnable for the NFC North franchise, but since they have lost all of them, making the playoffs seem nearly impossible.

In their remaining eight games, they have to play each division opponent twice and have games against the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

Chicago could potentially lose all these games based on how they have played since their bye week. There isn’t a single easy game left for them this season, and after all the preseason hype, the Bears will once again likely end up with a top-10 pick in next year’s draft.
