Bills Star Slams the Chiefs’ Dreadful Super Bowl Performance, Wishes Buffalo Got a Chance To ‘Put On a Better Show’

40-22. That was the final score of the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. While Eagles fans celebrated and Chiefs fans were disappointed, another Bills star had a hard time watching—wishing his team had made it to the marquee finale.

Dion Dawkins appeared on The Pivot Podcast on Wednesday, where he shared his thoughts on the much-discussed Super Bowl matchup between the Chiefs and Eagles.

Dion Dawkins Slams Chiefs’ Super Bowl Performance

“Immediate feeling was—’it’s over. What can we do? We lost. Time to go home.’ And now with the time, it’s like we would have put on a better show in a Super Bowl. We would have put on a better show,” Dawkins said when asked about Buffalo’s AFC Championship loss.

The Bills faced the Chiefs in the AFC title game and fell just short, losing 32-29. That defeat ended Buffalo’s Super Bowl hopes and sent Kansas City to face Philadelphia, the NFC champions.

“I am a part of my team, so I think my team is going to put on the best show regardless of anybody performing. We are the ones, we’re raw, our quarterback is raw, our line is raw, D-line is raw… We put on the best show, and we perform at a high level,” Dawkins said.

Even at the time, Dawkins remained a team player, expressing confidence that the Bills would return as contenders next season.

“Every loss is tough,” he said.

However, watching the Super Bowl left him with regret.

“And now I think looking at it, it’s like when it happened, I was like, ‘Been here before, 13 seconds, this sucks.’ You know, like we… we lost the game. And one game away, ‘Boo hoo!’ You know, but it’s over,” he added.

“I walked off out of fear. I gave Chris Jones a hug. I said, ‘Good luck, bro, go and get another one.’ And I was over it. I closed my door immediately… immediately. My mind was immediately off from that… When we got on the bus, I wasn’t complaining about anything, and I didn’t say we should have done this. It was over,” Dawkins explained.

The Super Bowl itself was one-sided, with the Chiefs struggling offensively. They failed to score in the first half and managed just 234 total yards. Costly turnovers added to their woes, and the game ended with a 40-22 Eagles victory. Seeing Kansas City falter only made Dawkins believe Buffalo would have been a better matchup for Philadelphia.

“I was already done. I said cool. I am home, I’m gonna go back to Buffalo, ’cause the season’s over. I don’t gotta get up and go to practice or work out in the morning, it’s over. And now, after going to the Super Bowl and seeing it and feeling those emotions, you know, I’m like, this is us. Like we would have done this. Not to say that we would have just gone in there and beat the Eagles… but we would have had a chance. And in my eyes, we would have had a better chance.”

Hopefully, Dawkins and the Bills can avoid another heartbreaking defeat in a clutch moment next season. Perhaps, that will finally lead them to their first Super Bowl title.
