Best Remaining NFL Free Agents on the Offensive Line: Top Veterans Available Include Donovan Smith, David Bakhtiari

With NFL training camps underway, we take a look at the best remaining free agents along the offensive line.

NFL training camps are underway, but many notable veterans across the board remain unsigned, particularly along the offensive line. The remaining free agents on the offensive line are primarily aging veterans, including former Pro Bowl offensive tackles and long-time NFL players David Bakhtiari and Jason Peters.

In addition to them, other veteran linemen are available to sign with teams in the event they suffer an injury to a key starter or backup as training camp progresses and we get into preseason action. Today, we take a look at the best free agent offensive tackles and interior offensive linemen.

Best Free Agent Offensive Tackles

1) Donovan Smith
2) D.J. Humphries
3) Charles Leno Jr.
4) David Bakhtiari
5) Jason Peters
6) Cam Fleming
7) Duane Brown
8) Tyre Phillips
9) Billy Turner
10) Riley Reiff

While some of the NFL’s other free agent positional groups have been picked over at this point in the calendar, the offensive tackle market still has several viable options.

Smith has made 136 career starts. He battled injuries with the Chiefs in 2023 but still appeared in 12 regular-season games before starting four playoff contests on the way to a Super Bowl title.

Humphries tore his ACL in January and may not be ready for Week 1. Nevertheless, his injury status could make him affordable and attractive to NFL contenders, who might like the idea of adding a starting-caliber OT late in the season.

Leno and Bakhtiari are also coming off injuries, but teams with a left tackle need could do worse than either veteran. Clubs that desperately need OT help — like the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, and New Orleans Saints — could consider this group as the season approaches.

Best Free Agent Interior Offensive Linemen

1) Mason Cole
2) Halapoulivaati Vaitai
3) Connor McGovern
4) Phil Haynes
5) Justin Pugh
6) Mark Glowinski
7) Tyler Larsen
8) Matt Feiler
9) Gabe Jackson
10) Max Garcia

Cole is 28, can play center and guard, and boasts 73 career starts and 4,300 snaps.

Injuries limited Vaitai to just six games and three starts for the Detroit Lions over the past two seasons. However, he can play tackle and guard, offering flexibility that could help him land a job.

McGovern has most recently been a center but can play anywhere along the interior. Pugh and Glowinski were part of a dreadful New York Giants OL in 2023 but could make sense as experienced backups.
