Super Bowl 58 is over, and it was one for the books. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22, cementing themselves in the history books as one of less than 10 teams to win back-to-back Super Bowls.
However, going into the game, many people thought head coach Andy Reid could retire afterward. He ended the speculation, though, saying he will return in 2024. What’d he say?
Andy Reid Announces He Will Return in 2024
It’s official. Reid is returning in 2024 in an attempt to complete a three-peat, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. “Honestly, I haven’t even thought about [retirement], but I get asked it,” Reid said.
“I mean, I’m still kind of in awe of the game and what went on there, so I really haven’t thought why or what or anything else. But people keep asking me, and I keep saying, ‘Why didn’t [Bill] Belichick and Pete [Carroll] retire?’ Ask those old guys those questions,” Reid said.
Chiefs’ owner and CEO Clark Hunt had shared that, despite the speculation, Reid was always expected to return.
“I don’t think a lot about that, but I think that would be pretty neat. A neat thing to do,” Reid said about going for a three-peat. “You’re not talking three-peat. Well, some guys do. You know, it’d be great.”

Reid wasn’t the only one in the Chiefs’ building with retirement rumors surrounding them. There is also tight end Travis Kelce, who is 34 years old.
“Hell yeah, I want that three-peat,” Kelce said when asked if he’s returning.
Kelce was also asked about Reid, who he said he considers one of the greats. “He’s one of the best leaders of men I’ve ever seen in my life,” Kelce said.
“I believe he’s the best coach of all time,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes said as well.

As a head coach, Reid is a three-time Super Bowl champion and one-time AP NFL Coach of the Year winner. He’s also a three-time Sporting News Coach of the Year and four-time Maxwell Club NFL Coach of the Year. He’s also a member of the Eagles’ 75th Anniversary Team.
