On August 16, Amon-Ra St. Brown injured his ankle and the designation hung with him over the final weeks of the preseason. That said, he did practice over the weekend and has his eyes set on playing in tonight’s season opener. Fantasy football managers … take a deep breath!
Latest News Surrounding Amon-Ra St. Brown
During his two years in the NFL, St. Brown has only missed one game. When Detroit’s star receiver rolled his ankle in mid-August, the team elected to take the cautious approach over the next two weeks. That strategy paid off, as the star practiced over the weekend and is set to take the field tonight.

What Does This Mean for His Teammates?
St. Brown is my WR5 for the week and is a lineup lock in all situations according to our PFN Consensus Rankings. Would it have been better to avoid the summer injury bug? Of course, but there is nothing surrounding this injury or his past that suggests we need to downgrade him at all heading into what could be the highest scoring game of Week 1.

This helps the value of my QB17 for the week, Jared Goff. The lack of mobility hurts his ceiling to a point where I can’t recommend starting him in most one-QB leagues, especially if Kansas City’s offense stays on the field. However, he is a viable option in Superflex settings or even leagues that award six points per passing touchdown.
The running backs on this roster are both of interest given that no team got more fantasy production from their backfield last season than the Lions. I prefer rookie Jahmyr Gibbs and have him as a top-15 play at the position, but David Montgomery should get enough run as well to produce flex value.
Sam LaPorta is the only other pass catcher in this offense that is worth consideration and even that is in more of a “I was banking on Travis Kelce and need an insurance option” sort of way. The rookie is talented, but his path to consistent fantasy football value isn’t there … yet.
