Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown has impressed during his time in the NFL, earning All-Pro honors. St. Brown was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and surpassed 1,000 receiving yards last year, making the Pro Bowl.
The wide receiver has been a pivotal part of the Lions’ offense and helped lead the team to turn things around, culminating in an NFC Championship Game appearance in 2023.
Athleticism runs in the St. Brown family, so who are Amon-Ra’s parents, John and Miriam?
Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Family
Amon-Ra’s brother, Equanimeous, currently plays wide receiver for the Chicago Bears after spending three seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Though he’s had less playing time in the NFL compared to his brother, Equanimeous has recorded 63 receptions for 928 yards in his career.
All three St. Brown brothers — Equanimeous, Amon-Ra, and their middle brother Osiris — earned major Division I scholarships. Equanimeous was drafted in the sixth round out of Notre Dame in 2018, paving the way for Amon-Ra to follow him to the NFL from USC.
Osiris, the middle St. Brown brother, is two years older than Amon-Ra. A four-star recruit from Mater Dei High School, Osiris played for Stanford from 2018 to 2020 but did not pursue an NFL career like his brothers.
As a child, Amon-Ra was motivated by his older brothers and was often dominated by them physically.
“Before we lifted, we would go play basketball, and we would do 1-on-1s,” Osiris said. “So my older brother [Equanimeous] would do 1-on-1s against my younger brother [Amon-Ra], and my older brother would obviously be way taller, older, and stronger. So he would do bully-ball on him, and I think that kind of always fueled his competitiveness.
“I feel like being around us all the time, we’ve always been older and stronger, so he always had to push harder to try and keep up with us, whether it be lifting, basketball, or anything.”

The brothers’ mother, Miriam, hails from Leverkusen, Germany, and played a significant role in their academic development, ensuring they became fluent in English, French, and German.
Their father John is a two-time Mr. Universe bodybuilding champion and three-time Mr. World in weightlifting. He was considered one of the best in the business during his time in the profession and served as his sons’ trainer growing up.
According to ESPN, John added “St.” to their last name for sports purposes, believing “St. Brown” would look better on the back of their jerseys than just “Brown.”
“I explained that to them when they were probably like two years old,” John recalled. “I would tell them to line up. I would blow a whistle, and that meant toe to line. They all had to line up from the tallest to the shortest, standing like soldiers — hands at their sides, heads straight — while I spoke to them. There are moments in life when I need my sons’ undivided attention to explain certain things.”
Both John and Miriam have played a crucial role in shaping the St. Brown brothers, both physically and mentally. Amon-Ra will have the chance to showcase his abilities in their 2023 season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
