Should I Draft Amari Cooper? Fantasy Outlook for the Browns’ WR in 2024

Cleveland Browns WR Amari Cooper was quite productive with Deshaun Watson, under center and he'll hope he plays the entire season in 2024.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper had some offseason drama concerning his contract, but that’s been resolved. With the raise, we can only hope that it will help Cooper’s fantasy football outlook.

With a phenomenal name like Amari Cooper, there are plenty of fantasy team name ideas for your squad, including “Cooper Troopers,” “Coop de Grace,” and “That’s Amari.”

Below, I’ll examine Cooper’s fantasy value and tell you whether you should draft him.

Amari Cooper’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season

If you’re looking to deploy a fantasy football strategy where you wait a bit on receiver, you’ll be able to get Cooper at WR25 and No. 55 overall.

I have bad memories of Cooper from Week 16 last season when he single-handedly defeated me in the playoffs with his 51.5-point explosion, which helped catapult many teams into the fantasy football championship. Unfortunately, Cooper didn’t play in Week 17.

In 2023, Cooper finished as the WR18, but this was mostly with Joe Flacco under center.
Deshaun Watson played in Weeks 1, 3, 4, 8, and 9. He also played in Week 6, but he attempted just five passes before getting hurt.

From Weeks 1 to 3, Cooper was the WR17. He scored just 6.7 points in PPR leagues in Week 1 but had 16 in Week 2 and 24.6 in Week 3. In Weeks 8 and 9, he scored 14.9 and 24.9 points, respectively.

According to TruMedia, Cooper finished the year with 128 targets, 72 receptions, 1,250 yards, and five touchdowns. He ran 540 routes and averaged a monstrous 17.4 yards per catch.

With Watson, he had five catches or more in all but one game and scored two touchdowns.
Overall, he saw 38 targets, caught 28 passes, had 471 yards, and two touchdowns.
These five games accounted for the following:

    • 37.68% of his yards
    • 31.14% of his targets
    • 38.8% of his receptions
    • 40% of his touchdowns

Remember, this was five games. In all, Cooper played in 15 games.

However, I must mention that the Browns added wide receiver Jerry Jeudy this offseason. He’s had two seasons with 100 targets or more but has never hit 1,000 yards.

The Browns have a Week 10 bye week.

Is Cooper a Good Fantasy Pick?

The Browns have three weapons in Cooper, Jeudy, and tight end David Njoku while they wait for running back Nick Chubb to come back.

The biggest wild card here is Watson, who’s been extremely erratic as a quarterback for the Browns.

Adding Jeudy doesn’t help, but I think we’ll see a lot of the production from Njoku with Flacco transferred to Jeudy and Watson.

We also haven’t seen a full season from Watson yet, and there’s still a chance this offense will help him turn things around.

Either way, Cooper is the No. 1 option in this offense, and I think he finishes comfortably as a WR2, beating this ADP. I’m not sure by how much, but if you draft Cooper as your WR, you should feel confident.

That said, don’t draft Watson to stack with him. That’s not something I’m willing to commit to yet.
