The Atlanta Falcons find themselves in a good spot as they signed cornerback A.J. Terrell with a lucrative four-year contract extension worth up to $81 million. The new deal places Terrell just behind the highest-paid cornerback — the Green Bay Packers’ Jaire Alexander.
Following the trade for New England Patriots EDGE Matthew Judon and the signing of free agent safety Justin Simmons, Terrell’s contract is another step in Atlanta’s pursuit of a staunch defense.
We will break down Terrell’s new contract specs and examine his overall net worth.
What Is A.J. Terrell’s New Contract?
This deal places Terrell No. 2 in terms of AAV (average annual value) for cornerbacks, with $65.8 million coming in the form of effective guarantees. It displays the Falcons’ trust in Terrell, the first-round pick from Clemson during the 2020 NFL Draft.
Thanks to the new contract, Terrell will now take home a total of $20.25 million in AAV, which is just behind Alexander’s $21 million per year.
Before signing the new contract, Terrell had a net worth of $2 million, which will now dramatically change thanks to the $65+ million in guaranteed money.
Terrell’s girlfriend, Haley Amoree, also expressed her support after Terell announced his huge contract extension and called him “so deserving” while congratulating the Falcons’ star CB.
They have a young daughter, Amina, who was born in July 2024.
The Falcons’ talented corner brings a good amount of playing experience to the team, having started all 61 games he’s played in.
Last year, Terrell finished the season with a total of 45 tackles, 34 of which were solo, and 11 assists. He also secured 11 pass defensed in the 17 games he played in, ranking in the top 30 in the NFL.
During training camp last month, Terrell reaffirmed his faith in the Falcons’ staff and said that it was easy for him to come to work every day and not care about the ongoing contract extension process as he knew it was in good hands.
