“A Formidable Team Who Can Win the Super Bowl” — Hype Grows for Lions After Epic Shootout Win

The Detroit Lions proved they can bring their own entertainment near Hollywood, joining the Los Angeles Chargers in racking up 954 combined yards and 79 points between themselves at SoFi Stadium Sunday.

But in the case of the CBS No. 1 broadcast team of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo, one of them was overheard in believing that the Lions are built for another city: Las Vegas on February 11, 2024.

“Detroit is showing you that they’re here to stay,” Romo said after Detroit’s last-second 41-38 win off a final walk-off field goal. “This is a formidable team who can win a Super Bowl.”

Nantz responded with, “By the way, don’t count them out from being a one seed either.”

How Did the Lions Provide Their Own Electric Performance? A Look at Their Astonishing Offensive Day

In a city that promotes movies, the Lions looked more like someone secretly auditioning for a future Fast and Furious sequel on offense. But in the process, they showed they’ve installed a championship-caliber scheme that can go full throttle.

This unit collected 533 yards in total in Inglewood. In four of their first five drives, the Lions either nailed the field goal or crossed the end zone — only punting the ball once during the first half. And one of those scores came from David Montgomery zooming through field traffic and taking advantage of open lanes.

But Detroit also turned to two guys who know a thing or two about starring near Hollywood: Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown. The quarterback, once the face of the Los Angeles Rams, brilliantly delivered 23 completions off 33 attempts and ended with 333 passing yards.

Goff, though, was at his composed best during two crucial passes in the fourth. The first one on this floater to Brock Wright.

This fourth-down call was a beauty that moved the Lions closer to the final three-point striking distance.

As for the former USC standout St. Brown, the “Egyptian Sun God” shined on this needle threading delivery from Goff.

St. Brown ended his day with eight catches, 156 yards, and scoring the other aerial touchdown from Goff. He handled the 100-yard work for the receiving end as Goff handled the air plan. Montgomery ended up joining the Lions’ blockbuster offensive performance by rushing for 116 yards.

Are Fans Believing That the Lions are ‘Super?’

Now at 7-2, the Lions continue to distance themselves from others in the NFC in the race for the top seed.

And the more they win, the more they hear it from the outside world on how formidable they’ve become under head coach Dan Campbell.

“Get those Super Bowl tickets,” said reporter for South Dakota News Watch Stu Whitney on X (formerly known as Twitter).

One fan brought up that Nantz and Romo’s postgame words have painted a new reality for the Lions.

    MORE: Detroit Lions Depth Chart

“National commentators saying the Lions can win a Super Bowl is something we never expected to hear but it is now reality,” the fan said on X.

Radio personality for Michigan Now Tyler Scott is noticing the way the narrative has changed for the Lions.

“That’s both commentators on national broadcast buying The Detroit Lions as Super Bowl contenders in week 10. What a time to be alive,” Scott said on social media.

For 89 seasons, the Lions were either a playoff team that fell short of a title appearance or were a division bottom-dweller. Now, in season 90, and this time near Hollywood, the Lions continue to rewrite their script as a championship-caliber threat. And this time, two prominent national analysts have the belief this team is capable of heading to Sin City to chase down the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
