‘Emma Raducanu Was Shouting All Over the Court’ — Markéta Vondroušová Reveals Her True Feelings After Wimbledon Shock

2023 Wimbledon Champion Markéta Vondroušová praised Emma Raducanu's performance as she lost to the British number one at Wimbledon.

Emma Raducanu delivered one of her best performances in years to defeat 2023 Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová 6-3, 6-3 on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2025. The straight-sets victory in 82 minutes showcased the British number one’s attacking style and put her into the third round for the third time in four appearances at the All England Club.

The win levels their head-to-head record at 2-2, with both of Raducanu’s victories coming at Wimbledon on grass courts. Vondroušová, who had won six matches in a row, including the Berlin grass-court title just before Wimbledon, was unable to find answers to Raducanu’s aggressive play.

Markéta Vondroušová’s Words on the Match

After the match, Vondroušová praised Raducanu’s performance, acknowledging the difficulty of facing the home favorite on Centre Court. The Czech player said Raducanu was “playing amazing tennis” and admitted, “She was playing incredible. In the rallies, she completely crushed me. I felt like I had no chance.”

When asked about Raducanu’s handling of the home crowd, Vondroušová said, “The center was packed, and she was still teasing people and demanding that they support her. She was very excited herself. From the second ball, she was shouting all over the court. It’s obvious that she’s enjoying it. It’s just not pleasant.”

Vondroušová recognized the challenge of playing against Raducanu in front of the British crowd, noting how the atmosphere affected the match dynamics. She acknowledged that “it’s really tough to play someone who is at home, especially on Centre Court. The crowd was crazy. I said before the match that she would be tough to play; she has a strong forehand and backhand.”

The Second Round Match Between Emma Raducanu and Markéta Vondroušová

Raducanu dominated from the opening game, breaking Vondroušová’s serve to take an early lead in the first set. The British player hit two aces and committed zero double faults while winning 68% of points on her first serve. Her aggressive return game proved decisive, as she converted 4 of 11 break-point opportunities compared to Vondroušová’s 1 of 5.

The first set featured a dramatic three-game stretch where Raducanu broke serve, was immediately broken back, but then regrouped to break again for 5-3 before serving out the set. In the second set, Raducanu secured an early break in the third game, maintaining control throughout and never looking in serious trouble.

Raducanu’s backhand was particularly effective, with fierce shots that either flew past Vondroušová or forced errors from the Czech player. The match lasted exactly 82 minutes, with Raducanu winning the final point when Vondroušová sent a ball long. The victory set up a third-round clash with world number one Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Marie Bouzkova earlier on Centre Court.

This performance marked a significant improvement for Raducanu, who had lost their previous meeting 6-3, 6-4 at the Abu Dhabi Open in February 2025. The win demonstrated her superior record on grass courts against Vondroušová, having now won both their Wimbledon encounters.

Raducanu is now set to face the top seed, Aryna Sabalenka, in the third-round match of Wimbledon 2025.
