While some teams, like the New York Islanders, emerged as major winners at the 2025 NHL Draft, others didn’t have the same luck. Whether it comes to their picks or their prospects, things weren’t that good. And the St. Louis Blues are one of those teams.
With just three picks across seven rounds, the Blues managed to secure just one first-round pick in the form of Justin Carbonneau on the right wing. So now, with the chance to acquire good prospects gone, the Blues need to focus on their trade situation.
And according to some rumors, some brewing interest in one of their key players is brewing.
St. Louis Blues See Trade Rumors Brewing for Brayden Schenn Despite No-Move Clause
Even before the draft started, the Blues were already getting attention from other teams. According to RG, forward Jordan Kyrou has been the subject of trade rumors involving the Montreal Canadiens. But the 27-year-old still has a no-move clause on his contract.
The no-move clause makes it hard for either other teams or the Blues to consider trading Kyrou ahead of July 1. However, while Kyrou has an NMC protecting him, the same cannot be said about Captain Brayden Schenn, who is on a modified no-trade clause with 15 teams off the table for any potential trade.
The left winger signed an eight-year, $52 million deal with a cap hit of $6.5 million. With five years already finished, he has a limited clause for now that restricts his trade to fifteen teams in the league. Despite this, Schenn remains the key point of interest for the Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

But the deal won’t be cheap if the Blues decide to let their captain go. It could result in the Maple Leafs trading their number one pick for the draft and one of their prized prospects.
The Blues had turned down deals regarding a trade for their captain last year, but considering their lack of depth in the drafts, one might expect GM Doug Armstrong to make some tricky moves. If the Maple Leafs want to get Schenn, then there is a chance that they might have to let go of names like Easton Cowan and Ben Danford.
With the free agency imminent, it remains to be seen what the subsequent development will be.

Anyone talking about the lack of St. Louis Blues draft choices has to remember this years second and third round picks have already been on the NHL roster contributing in a big way. That was the cost for Broberg and Holloway and you dont have to wait for the development of the picks. Armstrong wins the talent game and the time game. Armstrong is a Hall of Fame G.M. in my opinion and is bow worthy, we are very fortunate he is not one to want to showcase his talents in a large market.
Jordan Kyrou’s No Trade Clause begins July 1st. Until then he has no trade protection. If he is to be traded, it is likely to occur before Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Also, St. Louis is short on a second line center for next season. If they considered trading Schenn or Kyrou it would almost certainly be a hockey trade for a top six center. The Blues have plenty of prospects in the pipeline and young players on the roster. Any trade for “prospects” would create a log jam.
