Paula Badosa vs Katie Boulter Preview

Ninth seed Paula Badosa will take on Katie Boulter in what will be one of the most highly anticipated first-round fixtures at Wimbledon 2025. Badosa has won 17 out of 27 matches so far this season, reaching her maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open.

The Spaniard’s only prior tournament on grass was the Berlin Tennis Open, where she was the eighth seed. She got off to a flying start at the WTA 500 event by beating Eva Lys 6-1, 6-3. Badosa then beat Emma Navarro 7-6(2), 6-3 to book her place in the quarterfinals. Here, she faced Wang Xinyu and lost the first set 1-6 before retiring due to a back injury.

Katie Boulter has won 10 out of 21 WTA Tour main-draw matches so far this season, with her best performance coming at her most recent tournament in Nottingham. The 28-year-old started her grass season at the Queen’s Club Championships, where she reached the second round before losing 6-2, 3-6, 2-6  to Diana Shnaider.

Boulter then competed at the Nottingham Open as the eighth seed and started her campaign with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2 win over Lulu Sun. The Brit then edged out compatriot Sonay Kartal 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 to book her place in the quarterfinals. Here, she faced McCartney Kessler and put on a tough fight before losing 3-6, 6-3, 4-6.

Paula Badosa vs Katie Boulter Head-to-Head

The only prior encounter between the two came in the first round of last year’s French Open, with Badosa coming from a set down to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Paula Badosa vs Katie Boulter Prediction

Badosa will enter the match as the on-paper favorite to win but her fitness has been an issue for a while now, not to forget that Boulter will have the crowd on her side.

The Spaniard won 55 out of 72 points (76.4%) on her first serve at the Berlin Tennis Open, serving 13 aces. Badosa has an effective serve and will look to get as many free points through it as she can. The 27-year-old loves to play aggressively but can change the tempo of rallies well too.

Katie Boulter has won 167 out of 246 first-serve points (67.9%) so far on grass this season, accumulating 22 aces. However, the Brit has also served 41 double faults and will have to try not to produce too many of them. Boulter plays well from the back of the court and grass has been her best surface. That said, she will have to bring on her A-game if she is to come out on top.

While Boulter is not to be written, a fit Badosa should be able to get the better of her and book her place in the second round of Wimbledon.

Prediction: Badosa to win in straight sets.
