Mystics Star Sonia Citron Goes Viral For Dominant Stat That Only Fever Phenom Caitlin Clark Has Matched This Season

Washington Mystics rookie Sonia Citron becomes only the second guard this season to achieve multiple 20-point double-doubles, joining Caitlin Clark.

Caitlin Clark continues setting the WNBA standard, but Washington Mystics rookie Sonia Citron has emerged as her closest statistical match this season.

Following recent games against the Dallas Wings, Citron achieved something only Clark has accomplished among guards this year: multiple 20-point double-doubles.

The comparison stems not from a single impressive performance, but from Citron’s rare ability to consistently dominate in multiple statistical categories.

Citron Joins Clark in Elite Statistical Company

This year’s WNBA Draft produced several standout rookies, with No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers joining the Dallas Wings and capturing early headlines.

However, the No. 3 selection has quietly built an impressive resume of her own. Citron has gone viral after becoming the only rookie this season to record multiple 20-point double-doubles, placing her in exclusive company with the Indiana Fever superstar.

The Notre Dame product first achieved the milestone on June 22, dropping a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds in an overtime victory against Dallas.

The performance marked both her career scoring high and first 20-point double-double as a professional. Six days later, she replicated the feat with 22 points and 10 rebounds against the same opponent, though the Wings earned revenge with a 79-71 victory.

The statistical achievement has elevated Citron into conversations typically reserved for established stars. Only two guards this season have managed multiple 20-point double-doubles, creating an unexpected parallel between the veteran superstar and the rookie sensation.

Clark’s impressive resume includes three career triple-doubles and 14 double-doubles during her 2024 rookie campaign, according to WNBA stats. Her 2025 season has featured four double-doubles and one triple-double through the early portion of the schedule.

Consistency Defining Rookie Campaign

Beyond the highlight performances, Citron has demonstrated remarkable consistency for a first-year player. She currently averages 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while appearing in every contest for Washington. Despite her individual success in the recent loss to Dallas, the defeat dropped the Mystics to 8-8 on the season.

The improved performance represents a dramatic turnaround for the Mystics, who finished 14-26 last season and underwent significant organizational changes. Washington now hovers around .500, aided significantly by Citron and fellow rookie Kiki Iriafen’s immediate contributions to the rebuilding effort.

While Clark provides the statistical benchmark, Citron faces her stiffest Rookie of the Year competition from Bueckers. The former UConn standout currently leads most early-season award discussions, though Citron’s consistent production could challenge that narrative as the season progresses.

The statistical achievement against Dallas has certainly strengthened her case among voters looking for sustained excellence rather than brief flashes of brilliance.
