Ian Rapoport Drops Major Update on AFC Super Bowl Contender’s Chances of Trading for Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey

Ian Rapoport says Miami's Jalen Ramsey is likely to be traded by the Dolphins, but rules out a move to this AFC Super Bowl contender.

The clock may be ticking on Jalen Ramsey’s time with the Miami Dolphins. The star cornerback is reportedly on the trade block and, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, a deal could be coming sooner, possibly before training camp starts.

Ian Rapoport Confirms Dolphins Plan to Trade Jalen Ramsey, Shuts Down Steelers Rumors

Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rapoport was blunt on the situation.

“I still expect the Dolphins to trade Jalen Ramsey,” Rapoport said. “I don’t see him getting traded to the (Pittsburgh) Steelers. The Rams make the most sense to me; it’s just a difficult deal because of the money.”

That is a significant statement for Steelers supporters that hope their team would get a proven playmaker. Ramsey appeared to be the perfect fit for Pittsburgh, which still needed additional assistance. Rapoport’s update, however, disproves this idea.

Ramsey apparently did not attend Miami’s required minicamp, indicating that he and the Dolphins are prepared to move on. So it’s no longer just rumors.

Despite Ramsey’s undeniable potential, his tenure in Miami has been hindered by injuries and he’s not been able to stay on the field. On paper, dealing Ramsey makes sense because the team needs cap flexibility.

Potential Suitors for Ramsey; Pittsburgh to Move on Despite Defense Needs

So, where could he go? One potential team that has surfaced is the Los Angeles Rams. Ramsey helped the Rams win a Super Bowl in 2022. He’s familiar with the system and flourished there for a few years.

Although it won’t be simple, a reunion would undoubtedly generate buzz. Ramsey’s contract would require financial wrangling to fit in with the Rams’ already limited cap space.

In addition to the Rams, a couple of more teams are in the running. Others include the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys.

Like Ramsey, each team could benefit from a lockdown corner. Again, though, finances make things difficult. Being able to afford him is more important than simply wanting him.

For the Steelers, it’s a difficult situation to accept. Ramsey appeared to be the ideal target for the front office to make a big impression, especially after Aaron Rodgers will be leading the way for the team in the upcoming season. With the Pittsburgh offense finding solutions, the defense needed to get addressed.

It’s obvious that Ramsey’s future in Miami is in jeopardy. Both parties appear keen to reach an agreement as training camp approaches. Expect the situation to pick up steam quickly, whether it involves a return to the Rams or getting a new beginning.

Additionally, Ramsey may be a game-changer for any team that succeeds, if it can manage the contract.
