‘Maybe It’s the Water in Green Bay’ — NFL Analyst Breaks Down Striking Similarities Between Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre

Colin Cowherd draws striking parallels between Packers legends Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre, from Super Bowl wins to dramatic exits.

Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers are similar in many ways: They both called the Midwest area of Green Bay, Wisconsin, home for over a decade, are both loved by the Green Bay Packers, and both led the franchise to a Super Bowl victory.

Sports commentator Colin Cowherd is drawing fresh parallels between Rodgers and Favre, the two iconic quarterbacks who defined an era for the Green Bay Packers, suggesting that the similarities in their careers may be more than just coincidence.

Could it be the Drinking Water? Colin Cowherd Weighs in on Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre.

“Maybe it’s the water in Green Bay,” Cowherd quipped on his show, “The Herd,” as he broke down the striking resemblances between the two quarterbacks’ career arcs, personalities, and the drama that surrounded their departures from the Packers.

Both Rodgers and Favre spent over a decade as the face of the Packers, each winning a Super Bowl and multiple MVP awards. Favre played 16 seasons in Green Bay, while Rodgers logged 14 as the starter over a 17-year tenure.

Despite their different backgrounds and playing styles, Favre is known for his gunslinger mentality, and Rodgers for his precision and efficiency; their career statistics and legacies are closely matched.

Cowherd noted that while Rodgers has a slight edge in MVPs (four to Favre’s three) and boasts a higher passer rating, Favre holds more career touchdown passes and playoff wins. “Favre’s got all the stuff I care about: more Super Bowls, more playoff wins, more touchdown passes and more available,” Cowherd said, emphasizing the importance of postseason success and durability.

Perhaps most notably, both quarterbacks’ departures from Green Bay were marked by uncertainty and public drama. Favre’s exit paved the way for Rodgers, who later faced similar speculation and contract disputes before ultimately leaving the Packers himself.

Cowherd highlighted how both players’ careers in Green Bay ended with questions about their future, media scrutiny, and a sense that more could have been achieved given their talent and the teams around them.

“Aaron played in a more quarterback-friendly NFL than Favre, and a more offensive-friendly sport than Favre,” Cowherd observed, noting that while Rodgers’ regular-season efficiency is unmatched, Favre’s postseason resume and longevity remain impressive benchmarks. Both quarterbacks, Cowherd argued, left fans and analysts wondering if their immense talent could have translated into even greater team success.

To be straightforward, Rodgers is nearing retirement, and discussions about his legacy are beginning. Cowherd’s analysis highlights both the similarities and differences between Green Bay’s two legendary quarterbacks.

One thing is clear: both are beloved in Green Bay and have a home there. The key question is whether Rodgers will retire as a Green Bay Packer. This is a decision he will need to ponder carefully. It’s the franchise where he won his only Super Bowl (as of this date) and where he has spent the majority of his career. It would only make sense for him to stay.

If given the opportunity, will he choose to enter the Hall of Fame as a Packer? Only time will answer these questions; for now, let the speculation begin.
