The days leading up to the free agency are generally a wave of shock for the fans. From long-time franchise players leaving their old homes to teams preparing to offer the hottest free agents, it is a time when anything and everything can happen if the price is right.
And for the Edmonton Oilers, this offseason was one full of shock, as one of the franchise’s most beloved players and key wingers, Evander Kane, recently reported that he has been traded. This news comes just after Kane himself broke the news to the public.
The Oilers’ fanbase was desperately wanting a chance to rebuild given their back-to-back Stanley Cup Final losses, and with this latest news, they are not taking too kindly to the management making this decision.
Oilers’ Fanbase Aren’t Too Happy With Evander Kane Going to Vancouver
On June 25, Kane announced via a lengthy tweet that he would be leaving the Oilers after being traded to the Vancouver Canucks. This decision comes after weeks of rumors that Kane could be leaving the Oilers in favor of the Vancouver outfit.
Kane shared in his tweet, “As my time with the @EdmontonOilers has now come to a close, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank the entire organization, my teammates, and the incredible community of Edmonton.”
But while Kane might be looking forward to going back to his hometown of Vancouver, the fans have been left stunned.

One fan said, “Say what?? If true, Kane was a hell of a presence in the community and had some iconic moments as an Oiler. Sad to see him go to Vancouver, but hope his hometown treats him well. 🫡”
While Kane’s injuries held him back from performing as he would’ve wanted, it’s clear he made a place among the fans.

Meanwhile, another fan reacted, “Going to miss you, Kane! Too bad you are not here for another season.”
Despite spending just three seasons at Edmonton, Kane had become one of their most popular faces. But not all fans have the same optimistic tone.
One fan was more critical, commenting, “Zero points and 2 penalty minutes (2 games played) in last year’s Stanley Cup finals, 1 point and 32 penalty minutes (6 games played) in this year’s Stanley Cup finals. I hope the Panthers play the Canucks in the finals next year!”
Some other fans, on the other hand, blamed the Oilers’ management. One commenter wrote, “You’re going to be missed. This is a brutal move by the organization.”

Regardless of the sentiment of fans, the Oilers would need to focus on their front line come July 1 due to Kane’s exit, as a wild free agency and trade period is expected to continue into the coming month.
