‘It’s Frustrating’ – Fever Star Caitlin Clark Gets Candid About Lingering Shooting Struggles After 89–81 Loss vs. Aces

Caitlin Clark opens up about her shooting slump from deep after Fever’s 89-81 loss to Aces, calling the stretch “frustrating” but not concerning.

Caitlin Clark has never been afraid to shoot. But for the second game in a row, Clark couldn’t find her rhythm as the Indiana Fever fell 89-81 to the Las Vegas Aces. The Fever dropped to 6-7 on the season following their second straight road loss, despite a 26-point outing from Aliyah Boston and 19 points, 10 assists, and 3 rebounds from Clark.

The Aces, led by A’ja Wilson’s 24 points, snapped a three-game skid with the win at T-Mobile Arena.

Caitlin Clark Addresses Shooting Slump After Back-to-Back Losses

Following Sunday’s defeat, Clark gave an honest assessment of her shooting slump during the postgame press conference.

“There are going to be stretches that are really good and there’s going to be stretches that aren’t as good. And obviously it’s frustrating. You want them to go in, and even tonight, I felt like there was a few that felt really good off my hand, and it just didn’t go down,” Clark said, via Indy Star.

“So it’s just like, it’s just frustrating. I think the challenge for myself going forward is just [to] continue to pour into every other aspect of the game, and I can continue to have an impact in all those other areas. I thought I got to the rim well, it was just certainly a tough shooting night. And, you know, you’ve got to find a way to continue to shoot and remain confident in myself, because I know I’ve put the time in.”

Clark reiterated that she doesn’t feel anything is technically wrong with her shot, adding, “I don’t feel like it’s anything that’s off, necessarily. But yeah, would be nice if [the shots] went down.”

Indiana will close out the road trip on Tuesday night. Before the current slump, Clark had gone 11-of-20 from 3 in two games against Connecticut and Liberty, both won by the Fever.

Aces Snap Skid As Clark, Wilson Battle Through Off-Shooting Nights

Through the games, Clark is averaging 19.9 points, 8.7 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game. She’s shooting 35.5% from three on the season, slightly up from her 34.4%. But this recent slump has highlighted just how much attention opposing defenses are placing on her.

Fever head coach Stephanie White defended her guard following the loss and pointed to offensive execution.

“I think the biggest thing is what we as a staff have to do to get her better looks, higher quality looks,” White said postgame. “Every game plan is going to be to make her score inside the three-point line… We have to do a better job of getting her higher-quality looks. I’m not worried about Caitlin’s shot. Caitlin’s shot is going to be just fine.”

The Aces, meanwhile, led by A’ja Wilson’s 24 points, improved to 6-7 with the win. Indiana will wrap up their West Coast road trip on Tuesday night in Seattle, where Clark will aim to bounce back against the Storm and put an end to her perimeter drought.
