Nick Krygios Breaks Silence on Being Sacked From Wimbledon 2025 Coverage a Year After Controversial Stint

Nick Kyrgios has offered his thoughts about the BBC's decision to drop him from their Wimbledon 2025 commentary team.

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has questioned the BBC’s decision not to hire him as a commentator for Wimbledon 2025.

The controversial Aussie, whose career has been derailed by injuries, was added as a member of the BBC commentary team for last year’s Wimbledon tournament.

After Kyrgios entered the world of commentating at the ATP Finals in 2023, his punditry has been well-received by fans and experts alike as they appreciated his deep insights into modern tennis.

So, what happened between Kyrgios and the BBC?

Nick Kyrgios Offers His Thoughts On BBC Dropping Him for Wimbledon Coverage

Kyrgios fired back at the BBC. “It’s unfortunate but it’s probably their loss more than mine,” Kyrgios said according to The Guardian. BBC replaced Kyrgios with Christopher Eubanks, a big-serving American tennis star who has also forayed into acting.

“I understand they’ve got Chris Eubanks [the American currently ranked No. 108 in the world] but he hasn’t beaten the greatest of all time multiple times,” Kyrgios said. “When someone’s beaten (Roger) Federer, (Rafael) Nadal, (Andy) Murray, and (Novak) Djokovic and has incredible insights, it’s very strange you wouldn’t want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans.”

Kyrgios broke onto the tennis scene with a fiery win over Nadal at the 2014 Wimbledon championships. He then went on to display great form against members of tennis’ “Big 3″ in patches, racking up multiple wins against them.

However, Kyrgios has spoken optimistically about his chances of returning to work for the UK broadcaster.

“I’m sure our paths will cross again,” he said. “I only ever want to add humor, some knowledge and some great atmosphere.”

A Look at Nick Kyrgios’ Commentary Snub

It has been speculated that the BBC dropped Kyrgios due to controversies surrounding him, having faced backlash for those involving him last year.

When world No. 1-ranked Jannik Sinner announced that he had tested positive for a prohibited substance due to transdermal contamination in 2024, Kyrgios condemned him strongly and accused the Italian of “doping.”

Notably, the Australian was fiercely critical of Sinner’s then-girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya as he continued to escalate his online beef with Sinner. Kyrgios and Kalinskaya, a Russian tennis star, were reportedly involved in a brief relationship in 2020.

Kyrgios also drew criticism for a misogynistic jab against the Russian, replying “Second serve” to a fan’s photo of Sinner and Kalinskaya. He later deleted the comment.

Kyrgios had also triggered controversy when he shared a post from self-proclaimed “misogynist” Andrew Tate in February 2024. He later said he has “gone to all lengths” to distance himself from Tate.

A year earlier, he pleaded guilty to assaulting ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari in Canberra in 2021 but avoided a criminal conviction. He issued a public apology after the incident.

Kyrgios has returned to tennis this year, but remains affected by his injuries. He confirmed he would not be competing at Wimbledon 2025 due to a knee problem.
