Nebraska added another key piece to its 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of Luke Sorensen, a tight end from Servite High School in Anaheim, California. Rated the No. 36 tight end nationally by the 247Sports Composite, Sorensen chose the Cornhuskers over Ole Miss and Penn State.
The move highlights Nebraska’s expanding national reach in recruiting and the urgency within Matt Rhule’s program to meet high expectations. Sorensen’s pledge also reflects the Huskers’ push to reestablish their presence among college football’s top programs.
Huskers Continue Recruiting Surge with Commitment from California’s Luke Sorensen
Three-star tight end Luke Sorensen of Servite High School in Anaheim, California, announced his verbal commitment to Nebraska on Friday evening, choosing the Huskers over several high-profile programs.
“I’d like to announce my commitment to the University of Nebraska,” Sorensen said in a video posted by 247Sports. “What set Nebraska apart for me wasn’t just the tradition of a historically dominant and winning program.”
Sorensen, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 240 pounds, is rated as the No. 36 tight end nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He cited multiple reasons for his decision, from relationships with coaches to Nebraska’s team-first mentality.
“In the end, it was the culture of the program, the character of the coaches, and the expectation to perform and win at a high level, not just for next season but for the future of the university,” Sorensen said. “They believe in me not just as a player, but as a person.”

His official visit to Lincoln earlier in June played a decisive role in his commitment.
“That official visit did it for me,” Sorensen told On3. “Everything I knew about Nebraska from my unofficial visit, I felt it on the official visit. Everything aligned for me at Nebraska. Going into that visit, I knew how I felt, then I saw it all and knew Nebraska was the school for me.”
The team’s atmosphere and work ethic made a strong impression.
“That team culture at Nebraska is unbeatable. Nebraska is Nebraska. There is just football there and everyone there wants to work and to be great,” Sorensen said. “Football is taken so seriously and I want to be part of a culture like that.”
The opportunity to make an early impact on the field also factored into his decision, along with his relationship with offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Marcus Satterfield.
“Coach Satterfield is great. He is a very personable guy,” Sorensen said. “It is funny because he says he is not a recruiter, that he is just a football guy, but he is great. I love how he keeps it real and I really believe he can do a great job with me.”
Sorensen is set to finish his high school career at Servite before heading to Lincoln.
