EA Sports College Football 26 will be released on July 10, and is the second edition of the rebooted game after it went on an 11-year hiatus due to NIL concerns.
When the game returned last year, fans showered it with love, but as time went on, users wanted to see many gameplay issues fixed in the new game. EA seems to have listened to those concerns, including the ones about player abilities, as a new revamped ability system is coming to College Football 26.
Breaking Down the New Player Abilities System in College Football 26
EA dropped their gameplay deep dive to College Football 26 on YouTube in a video voiced by Kirk Herbstreit.
In the video, Herbstreit breaks down how player abilities will work in the new video game.
“Improvements to how abilities scale are based on performance,” Herbstreit said. “When a player gets hot, their physicals receive a substantial boost. And Platinum tier abilities will automatically upgrade to the new, more powerful Heisman tier. The Heisman tier captures those explainable moments when a player single-handedly takes over the game.”
This is a major upgrade, as last year, player abilities did not change within a single game. Now, players will get “hot,” so to speak, and that will only further their abilities on the field, simulating what happens when players get hot in real life.
Not only will abilities change from game to game, but there are now even more abilities within the game, as EA has added over 80 new ones.
This is another major addition. Last year, players often felt too similar, but in the new game, each player should feel like an individual. For example, if you use Jeremiah Smith, he will have abilities that Ryan Williams won’t have, and vice versa.
Fans had been clamoring for this change, and EA seemingly delivered on it, which is a sign of good things to come for the new College Football series. Time will tell if the gameplay actually feels as great as it looks, but so far, it feels like a homerun.
The whole gameplay deep dive goes into all the changes on top of the new player ability system that will be implmented in EA Sports College Football 26, and it’s clear that EA has dedicated time and effort to producing not only a game filled with realism, but one that replicates each player as best as possible.
