Badosa’s confident run at the Berlin Open met an unexpected end after she was forced to retire because of an injury mid-match. The Chinese player started picking up pace as soon as the showdown kicked off, attaining a 6-1 lead. This was when the Spaniard started feeling uncomfortable and therefore gestured towards the chair umpire to call it off.

Badosa reached the quarterfinals of the Berlin Tennis Open after a commendable second-round win over Emma Navarro. However, despite the dominant form, the unexpected illness stopped her from securing a spot in the top four.
Starting from the qualifiers, Xinyu secured five back-to-back wins (including one over Coco Gauff) to confirm her entry into the semifinals of the WTA 500 event.

Badosa has been fighting a chronic lower‐back injury that was first reported in 2023. The persistent pain in her L4 vertebra forced the Spaniard to retire mid‑match in Mérida and again in Miami. This was followed by abrupt withdrawals from Indian Wells, the Charleston Open, Mutua Madrid Open and the Italian Open.
With Wimbledon down the line, it still remains to be seen if the WTA star gets herself ready to face the unexpected set of challenges, starting from 30th June.
