Top quarterback recruit Jonas Williams discusses his recent commitment to play for the USC Trojans and what it means.
Trojans’ Future Quarterback Jonas Williams Talks About His Choice As He Dazzles At Elite 11 Camp
The Elite 11 competition event finals, featuring the top high school quarterbacks in the nation, are underway in Manhattan Beach, California, and one of its stars is opening up about his recent commitment to play for the University of Southern California. Four-star recruit Williams sat down with 247 Sports on the event’s second day, talking with Tom Loesch, Hudson Standish, and Andrew Ivins.
When asked about his decision, Williams was direct. “I think that the opportunities at USC are endless,” Williams said. “he coaching staff I have here, Lincoln Riley…they know how to develop quarterbacks. His track record is unlike any other coach…I don’t have to speak for him; everyone knows what he can do with talent. That was the deciding factor for me.”
He was also asked about building the new football-centered facility, the Bloom Football Performance Center, which was announced last November as a potential factor in his decision.
“I was down there in February when they broke ground. I was down there yesterday for my OV (official visit), and seeing it now…they’re building that thing fast,” Williams remarked, adding: “It’s probably going to be one of the most beautiful buildings in college football, and I’m excited to spend my first year experiencing it.”
At 6’1” and 215 pounds, Williams stood out for his adeptness at running plays from the offensive coordinator, his ability to improvise, and his knack for extending the play with good downfield vision. The Illinois native also impressed those at the Elite 11 with his footwork, which Trojans fans saw in a clip shared in a post on X, formerly Twitter, by On3’s Scott Schrader.

Williams is part of a highly lauded 2026 recruiting class for USC, which ranks number one nationwide on nearly every college football platform. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, he spoke about how much Riley and his staff demonstrated their desire for him to commit.

“Just how much love they show you, just how much they show they want you,” Williams said. “I think that’s what sets USC apart from other schools. And obviously, what USC brings to the players. On the field and off the field. We’re building a great class, and you have a world-class education.”
The quarterback will also be getting major help on offense, particularly from another top recruit, Mater Dei tight end Mark Bowman, who recently committed to USC. “I would say I’m pretty close with Mark Bowman, he’s a big piece in our recruiting class,” Williams stated.
“He’s a gigantic human” and the No. 1 tight end in the country. He got to work with Bowman in a throwing session, including three-star recruit Ja’myron Baker, who also works with Williams as a receiver at the Elite 11.
