Georgia Star Discusses Chris Bosh Playing Style Similarities

The comparison to Bosh isn’t something Newell shies away from. During a recent appearance on “The Sideline” podcast with Andy Katz, the Georgia star immediately acknowledged,  “Chris Bosh. That’s, I get that a lot.”

This comparison runs deeper than casual observation. Newell has actively studied Bosh’s game and sees apparent similarities in their approach. “He’s extremely versatile player. He can pick and pop. He can drive. He can crash and get rebounds. And that’s something that I’ve been studying as well,” Newell explained during the interview.

Both players share left-handed shooting strokes, exceptional mobility for their size, and the ability to impact games on both ends. Like Bosh, Newell possesses the modern NBA’s most coveted combination of size and shooting ability.

Newell’s size, shooting, and defensive versatility have impressed scouts nationwide. He averaged 15.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in his freshman campaign while helping Georgia reach its first NCAA tournament since 2015. The Atlanta native projects as an immediate NBA contributor.

From Montverde Academy to NBA Draft Ready Prospect

Newell’s development accelerated through elite competition at prestigious Montverde Academy, where he played alongside future lottery picks Cooper Flagg, Derek Queen, and Liam McNeeley.

This environment taught him valuable lessons about adapting his role to help teams win. “Montverde prepared me for Georgia, and I think Georgia prepared me for the NBA,” he reflected on his journey.

At Montverde, his focus centered on effort plays. “I think it was on the offensive rebounds at Montverde. You know trying to just clean up the mess. My role was different at Montverde than what it was at Georgia,” Newell reflected on how his responsibilities evolved.

This adaptability became his calling card. “I’m a plug-and-play type of guy,” he explained, “that means I can probably fit in any single team and, you know, just try to help the team win.”

“I play extremely hard. I’m a floor spacer, can guard and switch onto multiple positions, and I can rebound the ball,” he described. These attributes mirror what made Bosh successful, including two championships with Miami.

The pre-draft process has reinforced his professional approach. “This whole, you know, pre-draft process, I kind of found out who I was. You know you got to be a professional. Even at UGA, you know every single day has to be the same consistency, and I felt like I’ve been up to par,” he stated.

With the 2025 NBA Draft approaching, Newell’s Bosh-inspired approach positions him for professional success. His adaptability from Montverde to Georgia demonstrates NBA-ready versatility. Currently projected 21st overall, his championship mindset mirrors the winning formula Bosh perfected in Miami.
