Jessica Pegula is set to begin her campaign at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open. The American recently took part in a lighthearted video session, but one hilarious blunder left her scared of how her close friend and peer, Coco Gauff, might react.
What Made Jessica Pegula Sacred of Coco Gauff?
Pegula recently featured in a video shared by the official Instagram account of the WTA 500 event. In the clip, the American named several players she’s particularly close with, including 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys, Desirae Krawczyk, Jennifer Brady, and Ashlyn Krueger.
“I am really close with Madison Keys, Jenny Brady, Desirae Krawczyk. Those are kind of like my closest, but all the Americans, like honestly, Caroline Dolehide, she’s great. Ashlyn Krueger, who is sitting behind us right now, like really nice. I get along with a lot of people so (laughs),” she said.

However, she forgot to mention one of her closest friends, Gauff, in the clip, and later playfully corrected the blunder.
“Oh yeah, Coco sorry, I forgot her. Don’t put that in there because she’s getting mad at me,” she added.
Gauff and Pegula have built a strong bond on tour, often expressing mutual admiration across various platforms. They are former doubles partners who reached the No. 1 spot in the category and captured five titles together before ending their successful partnership following last year’s Olympics.
A Look at Some Other Hilarious Incidents Between Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula
Gauff and Pegula’s friendship has been filled with several lighthearted moments, including one during the WTA 1000 event in Dubai in February. While the 31-year-old was filming a video as part of her media duties, Gauff walked up and jokingly called her out for never replying to her texts.
The moment left Pegula laughing, as Gauff revealed that while she had been invited to a movie, Pegula later showed no interest in following through. Fortunately, the exchange ended on a positive note, with the two eventually going to see ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ together.
However, in an amusing revelation during her French Open campaign a few months later, Gauff said that Pegula had ‘ditched’ her once again when they tried to make movie plans.
“She asked me. I’m putting her on the spot… hopefully she wins so she won’t be extra upset. She asked me if we could watch Thunderbolts together and I was like, ‘Yes.’ Then she went home between Madrid and Rome. I could have gone but I still waited,” Gauff spoke in an interview with the Tennis Channel.
Gauff later revealed that Pegula secretly watched the movie without her, even after making plans together. Interestingly, the former’s physio told that to the latter’s.
“Then I find out yesterday – her physio told my physio – that she saw the movie. She doesn’t know that I know that she saw it. She DMed four days ago asking if I’d seen it yet, and I said, ‘No,’ because I was waiting for her! So this is the second time she’s ditched me,” she said.
“So the next time she asks to go to the movie, the answer is going to be, ‘No.’ I thought I was being a good friend but she doesn’t care about me, clearly. I hope she sees this and I hope she does win,” Gauff added.
Although they share a close friendship, their on-court rivalry remains intense. They’ve faced each other six times, with Pegula leading the head-to-head 4–2. However, Gauff won their most recent meeting at the WTA Finals last year.”
