Garrett Nussmeier Honors His Super Bowl Dad Doug Nussmeier with Touching Father’s Day Post

We just passed Father’s Day. Hopefully, everyone took the time to make their dads feel special yesterday. One person who certainly did was the LSU quarterback. However, it’s fair to say that nearly every moment the LSU QB spends on the field makes his father proud.

Take last season, for example, he finished the campaign with 4,052 passing yards, a 64.2% completion rate, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He is now a well-known name in the college football community and is continuously making his family proud. Garett first caught national attention after his MVP performance in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl, and since then, he has firmly taken the reins as the Tigers’ offensive leader.

Of course, his success is a product of his own hard work. But it’s also shaped by the guidance of his father, Doug, a former NFL quarterback. That’s why this Father’s Day felt like the perfect time for a shoutout. And the 23-year-old delivered it with raw emotion.

In an Instagram story on Sunday, Nussmeier posted a throwback photo of himself with his father. He captioned it, “HAPPY FATHERS DAY POPS. LOVE YOU!!! THANKFUL FOR ALL YOU DO.”

Doug’s football résumé is impressive. After being drafted by the Saints in 1994, he spent four seasons in the NFL and later built a respected coaching career. He earned a Super Bowl ring as the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach before returning to New Orleans in 2025 to take over as offensive coordinator.

Doug once said of his son, “Everybody has their own path… he believed in himself and knew that this was the right place to remain. That’s what I’m most proud of.” While the father had already given his son a heartfelt shoutout, Garrett’s Instagram story felt like an emotional return. What is your take on that?
