Kiyan’s response to seeing his tribute featured was to share the Instagram post to his story with two heart emojis. The Father’s Day tribute highlights the unique nature of Kiyan’s family relationship, which fosters respect and genuine friendship.

Standing 6’5″ and weighing 185 pounds, Kiyan has established himself as one of the nation’s top basketball prospects.
In the 2024-2025 season with Long Island Lutheran High School, Kiyan averaged 15.2 points in the Nike EYBL Scholastic league. He had four games scoring 25 or more points out of his 15 total games.
The shooting guard is ranked 36th in the 2025 ESPN 100 and averaged an impressive 19.6 points on the Nike EYBL circuit this past season. He recently graduated from high school and committed to Syracuse, his father’s alma mater.
This relationship has strengthened significantly since Carmelo retired from professional basketball. As Kiyan previously said, his father is now “more hands on deck” and “more foot on ground” than when he was actively playing in the NBA during his 19-season career.
The increased presence has allowed them to develop the brotherly connection that Kiyan celebrated in his message. Their bond extends beyond basketball, though the sport remains central to their relationship as Kiyan prepares to begin his Syracuse career following his father’s championship footsteps from 2003.
Although he never forced Kiyan into basketball, Carmelo has had a great influence on his son’s development. At the age of two, Carmelo included Kiyan in film sessions, allowing them to bond in unconventional ways that led to their relationship today.
This Father’s Day message perfectly exemplifies how Carmelo maintained an authentic connection while navigating the pressures of basketball legacy and public expectations.
