The time for college football programs to make pushes for top talent in the 2026 recruiting class is right now. Many top recruits in the nation are taking official visits to schools all summer long.
The Michigan Wolverines, who have been hot on the recruiting trail, are looking to sign yet another top prospect in the 2026 cycle: Five-star running back Savion Hiter.
Savion Hiter Takes Official Visit to Ann Arbor
Hiter is rated as the No. 1 running back in the 2026 class across numerous sites. He’s a consensus five-star recruit who is being heavily pursued by many schools, including Michigan.
Head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines are hosting Hiter in Ann Arbor, Michigan, this weekend on an official visit in the hopes of making one final push towards landing the Virginia native.
On3’s Steve Wiltfong broke down Michigan’s recruitment of Hiter on the On3 recruits YouTube channel, explaining that Michigan has been battling for a long time to land the best running back in the country.
“I think Michigan is one of the front-runners, alongside Tennessee, for Savion Hiter, as we go down the stretch of his recruitment,” Wiltfong said. “Georgia and Ohio State round out the top four. Michigan’s a program that we know has been at the top of the list for a long time.”
Unfortunately for the Wolverines, as Wiltfong points out, the race for Hiter is far from over. In the last two weeks, the young running back has taken visits to Ohio State and Georgia.
Following his visit with the Wolverines, he will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, for an official visit with the Tennessee Volunteers. Wiltfong said Tennessee is in a neck-and-neck battle to land Hiter.
The Wolverines hope to wrap up Hiter’s recruitment by the end of their official visit weekend. That likely will not be the case as Hiter wants to see what the Vols have to offer before making his final decision.
The Wolverines’ 2026 class currently is ranked as the 38th best class in the recruiting cycle by 247Sports. Landing Hiter would boost Michigan’s ranking in a big way. The good news for Michigan is that their staff is off to a hot recruiting start this summer as it has landed three four-stars since May 20.
If Moore and the Wolverines could land Hiter, then it would continue their hot streak and set Michigan’s running game up for the foreseeable future.
