C.J. Stroud Addresses Concerns Over His Shoulder Injury as Texans QB Takes Big Step in Minicamp

C.J. Stroud returns to full participation in Texans minicamp, easing injury concerns and reaffirming his readiness for a pivotal third NFL season.

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud finally returned to full throwing duties during Tuesday’s (June 10) minicamp session, giving fans and analysts a long-awaited glimpse into his offseason progress.

Until now, a veil of uncertainty had surrounded his absence from throwing drills in the earlier spring practices. With speculation mounting, Stroud and the Texans coaching staff decided it was time to clear the air.

C.J. Stroud Shrugs Off Injury Worries as He Returns to Full Action in Texans Minicamp

For weeks, the third-year quarterback had been held out of all six organized team activity (OTA) sessions open to the media. His lack of participation in throwing drills fueled concerns about a possible shoulder issue. When head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters Stroud was simply experiencing “general soreness,” questions remained.

However, on Tuesday, Stroud was back on the field throwing passes without restriction. That alone marked a turning point in the offseason narrative surrounding his health. According to Ryans, the decision to rest Stroud was precautionary.

Stroud confirmed as much when he addressed the media after the practice. His tone was direct and relaxed, pushing back against the notion that anything serious had been brewing.

“I was already throwing before you guys see me out there pretty normally,” Stroud said via KHOU. “I think y’all don’t have much to talk about so everything just gets blown up in the offseason. I’m fine, man. I’m really OK.”

His comments underscore how quickly minor issues can escalate into major storylines during the NFL offseason, especially when a rising quarterback like Stroud is involved. He emphasized that no procedure or treatment was necessary and reassured reporters that the shoulder was never a primary concern.

Though Stroud stayed active during previous sessions by participating in handoffs and staying mentally sharp by listening to play calls, he had not thrown a single pass in team or individual drills until Tuesday. His return to full participation at minicamp is not just symbolic; it indicates that Houston is moving forward without needing to adjust expectations around its franchise quarterback.

That’s especially crucial considering the Texans’ offensive focus this offseason. Following a Divisional Round playoff exit, Ryans was candid about the team’s shortcomings. Houston invested heavily in its offense during the draft and free agency, aiming to provide Stroud with better protection and more weapons.

With Stroud now throwing comfortably and showing no signs of physical limitation, concerns about his readiness for the upcoming season appear behind him. As Ryans and the coaching staff gear up for training camp, the return of their starting quarterback at full strength sends a clear message. Houston is all-in on making a leap in year three of the Stroud era.
