LeSean McCoy didn’t hold back on Shedeur Sanders’ ability as a quarterback. The two-time Super Bowl champ set the record straight on his show “The Facility” on FS1, which boasts over two million subscribers on YouTube.
The Cleveland Browns are desperate for change, as the Deshaun Watson experience has been a nightmare. With the likes of Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco on their roster, McCoy explained why he, along with key names in the organization, believes Sanders is the team’s best QB.
LeSean McCoy on Shedeur Sanders Being Browns’ QB1
The discussion of why Sanders fell to the fifth round will continue all season long, with the Browns looking to capitalize on that talk. Sanders lost millions of dollars by falling to No. 144.
Money is one thing, but skill on the field is another. The Colorado graduate walked into organized team activities (OTAs) with everything to prove, and he’s won some people over.
“The whispers over there basically are, ‘Hey, man, he looks like the best quarterback here. He’s young, he’s gotta learn the experience part. Fifth-rounder, so we got to make him earn it. But the truth is, he’s the best quarterback,'” McCoy said. “And this is not just words from coaches or scouts over there. It’s from some players and I mean key players.”
McCoy continued: “It’s like if you look at all of these other players, respectfully, I know what you’re going to give me.” He mentioned that Flacco didn’t do much last year, and his ceiling is nowhere near as high. He’s a fan of Pickett, but he thinks that the team has a better QB on their roster.
As for Dillon Gabriel, “He should give me some great reps for the scout team, getting the defense ready for the season. With Shedeur, we don’t know what he’s going to give us. He’s got a big ceiling. You got a first-round quarterback in the fifth round. That’s a blessing, so I think they should take advantage of it.”
While yes, the Browns did get a “first-round quarterback” in the fifth round, there was obviously a reason he fell as much as he did. Numerous other QBs were selected ahead of Sanders, no matter how high he ranked on certain big boards. It’s interesting to hear that players within the Browns’ organization are already putting Sanders above Gabriel, even though they selected him later on.
OTAs might not mean everything, but they’re a great chance to make a killer first impression. If Sanders already has key players and coaches backing his abilities on the field, then all he needs to do is keep doing what he’s doing for the next few months as the preseason looms.
