World No. 1 Sabalenka entered the clay-court Major after exiting the Italian Open in the quarterfinals. Coco Gauff entered the French Open after successive runner-up finishes at the Madrid Open and the Italian Open. The 21-year-old started her campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Olivia Gadecki and registered straight-set wins over Tereza Valentova, Marie Bouzkova and 20th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova to reach the quarterfinals.
Here, the American faced Australian Open champion Madison Keys and came back from a set down to win 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-1 and reach the semifinals of the French Open for the second year in a row. Gauff faced local wildcard Lois Boisson and produced a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win to reach her third Grand Slam singles final.

Sabalenka produced some clean hitting against Iga Swiatek but there were also instances when she produced errors that a player of her calibre normally doesn’t. The Belarusian will look to attack from the start of the match and put Gauff under pressure from the very first point.
