Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff Preview

Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff will lock horns in the women’s singles final of the 2025 French Open on Jun. 7.

World No. 1 Sabalenka entered the clay-court Major after exiting the Italian Open in the quarterfinals. The Belarusian booked her place in the semifinals of the tournament after straight-set wins over Kamilla Rakhimova, Jil Teichmann, Olga Danilovic, 16th seed Amanda Anisimova and eighth seed Zheng Qinwen.

Here, she faced three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek and won a tight first-set via a tiebreak after leading 3-0 at one point. The Pole won the second set 6-4 but Sabalenka dominated the final set to register a 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-0 and reach her maiden French Open final.

Coco Gauff entered the French Open after successive runner-up finishes at the Madrid Open and the Italian Open. The 21-year-old started her campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Olivia Gadecki and registered straight-set wins over Tereza Valentova, Marie Bouzkova and 20th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova to reach the quarterfinals.

Here, the American faced Australian Open champion Madison Keys and came back from a set down to win 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-1 and reach the semifinals of the French Open for the second year in a row. Gauff faced local wildcard Lois Boisson and produced a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win to reach her third Grand Slam singles final.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff Prediction

Sabalenka’s current run of form makes her the favorite to win the match. While Gauff’s last win over the Belarusian on clay came in 2021, she will be eager to get over the line after two runner-up finishes in WTA 1000 events.

Sabalenka produced some clean hitting against Iga Swiatek but there were also instances when she produced errors that a player of her calibre normally doesn’t. The Belarusian will look to attack from the start of the match and put Gauff under pressure from the very first point.

Gauff also loves to play aggressively and is a powerful hitter. However, her second serve has been a major issue, that has fetched her 33 double faults so far during the French Open. She has also produced 100 winners compared to 146 unforced errors.

The American’s return, however, has been pretty good, especially on her opponent’s second serve, where she has won 96 out of 132 (72.7%) points.

While Gauff has looked in good form lately, Sabalenka’s mental strength and her hitting can see her get the win and clinch her maiden French Open title.
