As Texas Tech softball prepares to face Texas in the best-of-three W͏CW͏S ͏championship series, the team recently ͏received personalized Adidas varsity letter jackets and shoes courtesy of their “No. 1 fan,” Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Texas͏ Te͏ch͏ alum Mahomes͏.
This͏ thoughtful gift͏ arrived ahead of Game ͏1, which saw͏ ͏the Red Raiders narrowly͏ fall to Texas Longhorns 2-1, but the excitement only grew͏ as ͏Mahomes was spotted in attendance for Game 2͏ on June 5 at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.

The jackets and shoes featured each player’s number in ͏Texas Tech’s iconic red͏ and black, with M͏ahomes’͏ Adidas logo proudly͏ ͏displayed on the͏ back, symbolizing his personal connection and endorsement.
The Red Raiders’ coach Gerry Glasco highlighted Mahomes’ dedication, saying in a video, “You got a gift from your No. 1 fan, Patrick Mahomes. (His) goal is to try and get here in person before this series is over. But he said to go ahead and give you this tonight, because he wants to be sure you get it.”
Mah͏omes’s involvement with ͏the Texas Tech͏ softball program ͏goes ͏beyond gifts ͏and appearances. He is ͏a known advocate of women’s sports and͏ a co-owner of the NWSL’s͏ Kansas City Current. His connection to the team deepened through his relationship with ace pitcher NiJaree Ca͏n͏ady, who is part o͏f his Adidas NIL team “Team Mahomes.”
Mahomes played a role in recruiting Canady from Stanford and has supported her milestone NIL deal valued at over $1 million, underscoring his investment in both the athlete’s and program’s growth.
During Texas Tech’s first victory in the Tallahassee Super Regional against Florida State, Mahomes was caught on video watching the game during a commercial shoot, and also later tweeted his encouragement.
Mahomes’s impact on Texas Tech extends beyond softball. In 2024, he made a $5 million gift for the renovation of the football stadium, demonstrating his deep commitment to his alma mater’s athletic programs.
His own football legacy at Texas Tech is distinguished. Playing from 2014 to 2016, Mahomes was one of the nation’s top passers, completing 63.5 percent of his passes for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns.
His standout junior season featured a national-leading 5,052 passing yards in 12 games, catching the eye of the NFL where he was drafted tenth overall in 2017 by the Chiefs.
