As Brian Burns is well aware, the season’s potentially first notable practice brawl just broke out at New York Giants training camp. It is rare for an entire offseason practice camp to go without one, and those playing the bingo card got their way.
Various causes of the scuffle could be floated, but one of the team’s players has shed light on why the riot broke out. Giants linebacker Burns explained what happened and whether the in-fighting will continue.
The Reason for the New York Giants Free-for-All Isn’t Complicated, Claims Brian Burns
According to a report by Giants beat writer Paul Schwartz posted on X on June 5, Burns claimed the fight wasn’t exactly as deep as an episode of “Law & Order.”

Of course, Burns’ statement was a prediction, nothing less. There will be hot days in the future, and tempers will flare. The question is whether the team can be focused enough not to let it get to them.
Who’s Potentially To Blame for the Giants’ Brawl?
The Giants already have a monumental task to catch up to the rest of the NFL, and cannot afford to fight each other on the sidelines of games. The fight arguably also falls on Brian Daboll’s shoulders as the chief conductor of practice. It also falls on him to fix the issue and refocus the team for future practices.
That said, he wasn’t the only one at least partially responsible for letting morale sink that low just six practices into the OTA and training camp part of the year.
According to SNY reporter Connor Hughes in a post on X on June 5, Burns tackled offensive lineman James Hudson.

“Tensions started [the] play before,” the reporter noted.
Kayvon Thibodeaux also got involved at one point. The following play was when the team-wide fight reportedly began. “Things happen,” Russell Wilson said, keeping in mind the competitive environment, essentially shrugging his shoulders.
As the team’s front-runner to be their starting quarterback, it falls on the veteran to help keep the peace. Some will argue his nonchalant reaction might go down as one of the lowlights of the summer from a leadership perspective, but it will be up to him to set the example and send a few choice words to the team to keep spirits alive but in check as we advance.
