Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has struggled with lingering knee injuries for the past two years. The former second-round pick has missed over 20 games due to injuries in the last two NFL seasons. He started 44 out of 45 games in his first three seasons.
When Diggs is on the field, there is no denying his impact. Dallas needs him out there. Recently, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer shared positive news about the cornerback’s knee rehab ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

The Cowboys drafted Diggs at 51st overall in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He did an excellent job for the franchise in his first three seasons, racking up 17 interceptions and earning two Pro Bowl nods.
In the first game of his fourth season in 2023, Diggs recorded three solo tackles and one pass deflection in a 40-0 win against the New York Giants. The 26-year-old followed it up with one solo tackle and two pass deflections in the next contest. Unfortunately, he tore the ACL in his left knee during a Week 3 practice session. The injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Diggs returned to the gridiron for the 2024 NFL season-opener. He missed Week 12 and Week 13 due to a groin injury and was later ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury on the same left leg.
On June 3, Cowboys head coach Schottenheimer took to X to share that Diggs is recovering from his double knee injury in Miami, and the medical team has had good communication with the franchise.

Cowboys Draft Promising Rookie CB in 2025 NFL Draft
Diggs is a ball-hawking corner who thrives in man coverage and is usually put on an opposing team’s best receiver. The 6’2″, 195-pounder had 11 passes defended in 2024 with two picks. He has great closing speed and is excellent at reading a quarterback’s eyes. He would be a key for the Cowboys’ return to the postseason.
Dallas has struggled with the availability of its defensive units. Daron Bland, who had an exceptional start to his NFL career, also missed 10 games last season. He led the entire league with nine interceptions in 2023, including five pick-sixes, which set a new single-season record.
The Cowboys selected Shavon Revel Jr. in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The 6’3″, 193-pounder played 24 games at East Carolina where he recorded 70 tackles, three interceptions, and 15 passes defended. His final college season was reduced to three games due to an ACL injury which forced the disruptive cornerback to drop out of the first round. Dallas pounced when he was sittiing there at No. 76 overall.
The Cowboys need to have a strong defense considering the number of elite receivers in the NFC East — A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, Darius Slayton, and Malik Nabers. Looking at the Cowboys’ defensive unit and the injury history, they may need to bolster their squad depth to ensure sufficient strength.
