Jessica Pegula pointed out the reason for her surprising defeat to wild card Loïs Boisson in the fourth round of the 2025 French Open. This was the first meeting between Pegula and Boisson on the WTA Tour.
Leading up to the clay-court Grand Slam, Pegula participated in the 2025 Internationaux de Strasbourg, where she lost to Anna Kalinskaya in her opening match.
Jessica Pegula Highlights What Caused Her To Lose Against Loïs Boisson at the 2025 French Open 4R
Pegula was seeded third at the 2025 French Open and began her run by defeating Anca Todoni in the first round, winning 6-2, 6-4. She overcame fellow American Ann Li 6-3, 7-6(3) in the second round, and then battled past Markéta Vondroušová, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the third round to secure her place in the fourth round. Here, her campaign ended after losing 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to Boisson.
During the post-match press conference after her loss to Boisson, Pegula stated that she felt she played well in the first set. However, she acknowledged that the 22-year-old consistently outperformed her in terms of serving throughout the match.
“I honestly don’t think I was that surprised by how she played. I felt like the match turned into exactly how she wanted to play, and that’s unfortunate for me. I think I did a good job in the first set, but at the same time, she definitely served better,” Pegula said.
Pegula praised Boisson’s powerful forehands and her ability to hit high, heavy shots, which she believed significantly contributed to the Frenchwoman’s success. The World No. 3 admitted that she had numerous opportunities to seize control of the match but was unable to capitalize on them.
“I felt like in the first set she missed every drop shot, and then in the second and third she made every single one, and I didn’t really do a good job with those points. But I felt like she honestly played how I thought she would play, look for forehands, hit super high, super heavy at times, and I again had like a million chances and it just didn’t go my way in those kinds of big moments,” she added.
