Naomi Osaka Thanks Friends & Family for Their Support After Her 2025 French Open 1R Loss

In the first round of the 2025 French Open, Osaka faced off against 10th seed Paula Badosa. This marked the first encounter between the two players on the WTA Tour. The former World No. 1 started strong and clinched the first set 7-6(1). However, Badosa rallied back, winning the next two sets to ultimately secure the match with a score of 6-7(1), 6-1, 6-4.

After her loss to Badosa, Osaka took to social media to share a photo with her mother, Tamaki, her sister, Mari, and two friends. In the caption, she thanked them for helping her stay “sane” following her defeat at the tournament.

“Thank you guys for keeping me sane. 🥲❤️ @themartyharper @alexboston @mariosaka @tamakiosaka,” Naomi Osaka captioned her Instagram post.

Naomi Osaka also shared another image of herself on court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros and mentioned that her first round loss there “hurt” her.

“Idk guys I don’t have anything motivational to say for this one. I tried my best but this one really hurts. Comforted by the fact that I’ll get referred to as 4x GS winner and never 2025 RG 1st rounder haha,” Osaka captioned her Instagram post.

In her post, the former World No. 1 also thanked her apparel sponsor, Nike, for allowing her to design a cherry blossom-inspired outfit for the clay court Grand Slam.

“Thank you @nike for letting me draw this fit and trusting me enough to bring it to life (literally don’t know why you guys are always so kind to me), thank you @themartyharper for coming through and turning me into Sailor Moon (it’s giving mahou shoujo ✨). Lastly, thank you to everyone for all the kind messages, I am extremely grateful ❤️,” she added.

Osaka had entered the French Open after competing at the 2025 Italian Open, where she had a relatively modest run, triumphing over the likes of Sara Errani, Viktorija Golubic, and Marie Bouzková in the first three rounds before losing to Peyton Stearns in the fourth round.

“I Hate Disappointing People” – Naomi Osaka After Losing in the First Round of French Open 2025

While speaking to the press, following her loss to Paula Badosa in the first round of the 2025 French Open, Naomi Osaka expressed her frustration with her performance, stating that as time passes, she knows that she needs to improve, as she deeply hates “disappointing people.”

“As time goes on, I feel like I should be doing better. But also — I kind of talked about this before, maybe a couple years ago, or maybe recently, I’m not sure — I hate disappointing people,” Naomi Osaka said.

Criticizing her performance, Osaka indicated that she feels sad that her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, had to go from seeing success after working with players such as Serena Williams, to seeing her current struggles on the court.

“So even with Patrick, I was thinking this just now, but he goes from working with, like, the greatest player ever to, like, ‘What the f**k is this?’ You know what I mean? Sorry for cursing. I hope I don’t get fined,” she added.

Meanwhile, after her win over Osaka, Badosa is set to face Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round of the French Open.
