Iga Świątek’s coach Wim Fissette talked about the Pole's performance during practice sessions leading up to her first match at the 2025 French Open.

Iga Świątek’s coach, Wim Fissette, recently talked about the Pole’s performance during practice sessions leading up to her first match at the 2025 French Open. This year, Świątek will enter the clay court Major as a three-time defending champion, having claimed the title in 2022, 2023, and 2024 by defeating Coco Gauff, Karolína Muchová, and Jasmine Paolini in the finals, respectively.

Leading up to the French Open, Świątek participated in both the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, where she was the defending champion. However, this year she lost in the semifinal to Gauff in Madrid and was eliminated by Danielle Collins in the third round in Rome.

Iga Świątek’s Coach Wim Fissette Talks About Pole’s Preparations for French Open 2025

Before her opening match at the French Open, Fissette spoke with Eurosport, revealing that he and Świątek and her team arrived in Paris early for practice. He also mentioned that their “preparations” have been productive.

“I always have a positive attitude. We came early, we had a lot of training days, we had super hard training days, and yeah, preparation has been good, so we’re ready to go,” Fissette said.

Fissette also praised Świątek’s “focus” and “mentality” ahead of her first-round match at the clay court Grand Slam.

“I definitely saw great mentality on the court, just focus on the work, focus on everyday improvements, and just willing to work. There’s not much more that you can expect from a player,” he continued.

Fissette also said that he is pleased with the training sessions they have conducted together, and it is only a matter of the Pole staying “very stable” and “strong” in the matches at the tournament.

“So I’m really happy with the last 10 days here in Paris. I think the preparation is done and now it’s about playing the matches and staying very stable and strong in these matches,” Świątek’s coach added.

Iga Świątek Is Set To Face Rebecca Šramková at the 2025 French Open 1R

Iga Świątek will kick off her title defense at the 2025 French Open with a first-round match against Rebecca Šramková. The Slovakian player will also participate in the doubles event, teaming up with Viktoriya Tomova. They will face the American duo of Quinn Gleason and Katie Volynets in their opening match.

In the lead-up to the French Open, Šramková competed at the 2025 Internationaux de Strasbourg, where she secured a victory over Yulia Putintseva in the first round before being eliminated by Magda Linette in the second round.

Świątek and Šramková have met only once on the WTA Tour, during the second round of the 2025 Australian Open. In that encounter, the former World No. 1 secured a dominant victory, winning 6-0, 6-2.

The winner of the Świątek-Šramková match will advance to the second round, where they will face either Emma Raducanu or Wang Xinyu.
