‘Fakest Tough Guy in the League’ – Matthew Tkachuk Bullying Sebastian Aho Fails to Win NHL Fans Over

NHL fans called Matthew Tkachuk a "fake tough guy" after his heated altercation with Sebastian Aho in Game 3.

The Florida Panthers took a commanding 3-0 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final with a 6-2 win Saturday night. But it wasn’t just the scoreboard that got people talking. During the third period, Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk targeted Hurricanes star Sebastian Aho, delivering several slashes, a big hit, and even a takedown.

It appeared to be in response to Aho’s hit in Game 2 that injured Panthers forward Sam Reinhart. Reinhart missed Game 3 with a knee injury, and Tkachuk made it clear he wasn’t happy. After a series of aggressive plays, Tkachuk was handed a minor penalty and continued to chirp at Aho from the penalty box.

Tkachuk later defended his actions after the game. “It’s just sticking up for teammates. We’re a family in there,” he said. He added that anyone on the Panthers would have done the same thing. But many hockey fans didn’t agree.

Hockey Twitter Calls Out Matthew Tkachuk’s Game 3 Behavior

Despite the Panthers’ dominant win, fans across social media criticized Tkachuk’s aggressive actions.

“Guy ghosts through the first two rounds and is carried by his team and acts like he’s god’s gift to this earth,” posted one user, calling Tkachuk the “fakest tough guy in the league.”

“What did it accomplish except once again disadvantaged Florida on a penalty kill?” asked another. One user even went as far as to label Tkachuk’s actions “goon hockey.”

Many fans felt Tkachuk was putting on a show rather than truly supporting his teammates. With Florida already comfortably leading the game, his behavior seemed personal rather than strategic.

Others highlighted Carolina’s lack of response to the incident. No Hurricanes player stepped up to confront Tkachuk, raising questions about Carolina’s willingness or strategy to avoid further conflict.

Despite the controversy, Tkachuk clearly made his presence felt in Game 3, for better or worse.

Florida Panthers Closing In on Stanley Cup Final Appearance

While the controversy stole headlines, Florida’s win showcased the team’s overall strength and depth. Even without Reinhart, key players stepped up. Jesper Boqvist provided a spark with a slick goal, while the Panthers’ defense stayed tough from start to finish.

Tkachuk, controversial or not, has become the emotional leader for this Panthers team. His aggressive play and fiery presence have defined the Panthers’ identity this postseason.

Florida has now outscored Carolina 16-4 through the first three games. They sit just one victory away from reaching their third consecutive Stanley Cup Final. Game 4 is scheduled for Monday at Amerant Bank Arena.
