Venus Williams expressed her love for her sister, Serena Williams, by sharing a nostalgic photograph of the two from the 1999 Miami Open.
The Williams sisters were a formidable team in doubles tennis during their playing days, winning 14 Grand Slam titles and going unbeaten in Major finals. They also won three doubles golds at the Olympics, triumphing in 2000, 2008 and 2012.
In singles competition, the sisters faced off 31 times on the WTA Tour, with Serena Williams leading the head-to-head at 19-12.

Venus Williams recently took to social media and shared a heartwarming image of herself and Serena Williams holding their winners’ and runners-up trophies from the 1999 Miami Open.

At the 1999 Miami Open, Venus Williams, seeded sixth, beat Tara Snyder, Fabiola Zuluaga, Anke Huber, Jana Novotná, and Steffi Graf to advance to the final. Here, she faced Serena Williams and won 6–1, 4–6, 6–4 to successfully defend her title.
Serena Williams announced her retirement from professional tennis in 2022, with that year’s US Open being her last tournament. She beat Danka Kovinić and Anett Kontaveit in the first two rounds before losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third.
While Venus Williams has not officially retired from the sport, she is currently inactive on the WTA Tour and has not competed since last year’s Miami Open, where she lost to Diana Shnaider in the opening round.
Venus Williams Won One More Miami Open Title After 1999
Venus Williams clinched the Miami Open title three times throughout her career, triumphing in 1998, 1999, and 2001. She entered the 2001 tournament as the third seed and she began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye.
The then-teenager defeated Miriam Oremans with a commanding score of 6-2, 6-0 in her opening match and then overcame qualifier Sandra Cacic and Tathiana Garbin to book her place in the quarterfinals. Here, Williams triumphed 6-2, 6-3 over 21st seed Jelena Dokić 6-2, 6-3 and then registered a 6-3, 7-6(6) win over top seed and defending champion Martina Hingis in the semifinals, earning her place in the final.
In the final, Venus Williams faced fourth seed Jennifer Capriati and emerged victorious with a scoreline of 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(4) to win her third title in Miami.
