‘You’re Going To Get Grilled’— Giants QB Jaxson Dart Opens Up About His ‘Intense’ Pre-Draft Meeting With Brian Daboll

New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart explained why you must be prepared when going into any sort of meeting with head coach Brian Daboll.

The New York Giants were able to sneak back into the first round of the NFL Draft to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall pick.

Not only does Dart, New York’s presumed quarterback of the future, seem to be ready for the bright lights of New York City, but he also appears to be ready for any sort of meeting with head coach Brian Daboll.

Jaxson Dart Describes Pre-Draft Meeting With Giants Coach Brian Daboll

Dart recently chatted with Sports Illustrated and spoke about the importance of being ready for a meeting with head coach Brian Daboll.

“It’s intense, and he definitely wants to get the most out of you,” Dart said. “I would say, if you’re not prepared, don’t step into the meeting because you’re going to get grilled.”

The rookie is just 22 years of age but already appears to understand what it takes to be prepared at the NFL level. That is what you get when you draft a three or four-year college starter. You get a player who has been through a lot, the ups and downs, and knows what it takes to win.

Dart ended his Ole Miss career with back-to-back 10-win seasons and is hoping to do that in New York when his number is eventually called.

What Does the Giants’ Quarterback Situation Look Like Moving Forward?

The Giants have one of the more interesting quarterback rooms in the entire NFL heading into 2025.

After striking out on the Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford sweepstakes, the organization decided to sign future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson and former Pro Bowl quarterback Jameis Winston this offseason.

Those two are not long-term options under center, nor can they help this team win a Super Bowl right now. However, whoever the starter is, likely Wilson, he can help keep the team somewhat competitive until Dart is ready to take over in the future.

Remember, Daboll is running out of time to prove that he is the right coach for the Giants. While former quarterback Daniel Jones wasn’t his guy, Dart is. That is why he will have one more chance to work with a younger quarterback.

However, if this next season results in just three or four wins with Wilson and Winston predominantly starting, he could be out of a job at the end of it. His 18-32-1 record is not doing him any favors right now, and another rough season could put him on the road to preparing for job interviews next offseason.
