‘They Don’t Want Me To Come Back’ – When Aaron Rodgers Got Brutally Honest on Leaving Packers After Legendary Stint

Aaron Rodgers has been split from the Green Bay Packers for some time. Here is what the four-time NFL MVP said after leaving them.

As Aaron Rodgers might have heard, April showers bring May flowers. In other words, May is a month rife with new beginnings. Back in 2023, the Green Bay Packers were in the process of officially handing the keys to Jordan Love.

That meant taking them away from Rodgers, who had been on the other side of the transition when Brett Favre was replaced. Two years ago, Rodgers spoke about the change as it was taking place.

When Aaron Rodgers Spoke About His Exit From Green Bay

Just weeks after officially getting traded from the Packers to the New York Jets, Rodgers spoke about the transition in Green Bay in an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show” on May 15, 2023, via ESPN.

“I’ve got nothing but love in my heart for every Packer fan and everybody that works in the organization,” Rodgers said. “My life is better because of my time in Green Bay. But we’ve just got to look at the reality. They want to move on. They don’t want me to come back, and that’s fine. They’re ready to move on with Jordan. That’s awesome.”

Packers fans were nervous, but Love went on to create a new wave of confidence with the fanbase. 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, a winning record, and a playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys gave the impression that the Packers’ multi-decade run of quarterback stability was set to continue. Of course, 2024 was arguably a different story.

Love and Rodgers’ 2024 Output Comparison Leaves One Clear Winner

Rodgers missed the 2023 season due to an Achilles injury, which he suffered in the first game of the season, suggesting to some that the Packers might have dodged a bullet. However, both Love and Rodgers played the majority of the games in 2024, giving fans a clear look at whether the Packers were better off with Love.

Rodgers earned a 72.2 rating in PFSN’s QB+ metrics. Love, meanwhile, earned a 78.8 grade.

In terms of statistical production, Rodgers threw for 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, edging out Love’s 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Love played two fewer games than the four-time NFL MVP as the Packers star dealt with an MCL sprain.

That said, Packers fans feel they won the comparison as Rodgers went 5-12 while Love went 9-6. Of course, on the other hand, all was not perfect in Green Bay. The Packers quarterback had essentially treaded water if not taken a step back due to a shorter playoff run in 2024 than in 2023.

In 2025, the pressure has landed at Love’s feet to perform with a young wide receiver room. As for Rodgers, he is still waiting for a job.

Will either quarterback trend up in 2025?
